PART 1 GENERAL

1.1SECTION INCLUDES

  1. This section specifies items and assemblies fabricated from stainless steel sheet, shapes and other materials for suspended ceiling panels.

Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01600.

The listed manufacturer shall not be construed as closing specifications to other prospective manufacturers, but rather as establishing a quality level of metal panels. Other systems may be submitted for approval as provided for in the specifications at least 10 working days prior to submission of bids. Companies desiring to submit a proposal shall submit all descriptive information of the proposed system in the form of submittals including photographs and shop drawings of at least three projects similar in detail and scope.

1.Placement Drawings: Include plans, elevations; sections showing construction, installation and fastenings.

  4. Samples of ceiling materials and anchoring system shall be submitted for approval if required.

1.8QUALITY ASSURANCE

  1. Manufacturer of ceiling panel system shall meet the requirements of “Buy American” domestic requirements.
  2. Field measurements shall be taken prior to ordering and fabricating ceiling system.

1.9DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

  1. The contractor is responsible for the proper handling and storage of materials upon delivery to the job site.
  2. Care shall be taken when storing materials to insure and prevent damage from excessive or uneven storage and or damage to the finish.
  3. Materials shall be set on dunnage blocks and protected from weather and construction traffic.
  4. Do not install damaged material.

1.10 SITE CONDITIONS / REQUIREMENTS

  1. Field measurements shall be taken at the site by the contractor, as to allow for accurate location of piping, equipment placement prior to fabrication of materials, to verify or supplement indicated dimensions and to ensure proper fit.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1MANUFACTURER

2.2CEILING PANEL MESH MATERIAL

  1. Panel Mesh shall be manufactured from [aluminum to meet ASTM B209] [carbon steel to meet ASTM A1011] [brass to meet ASTM B36 Alloy C26000] [copper to meet ASTM B152 Alloy C11000].
  1. Panels have both a longitudinal and latitudinal direction and shall be fabricated with the molded openings running the same direction as specified and shown on the drawings.

2.3CEILING PANEL MESH DESCRIPTION

A.Aluminum mesh shall be AMICO model number [APEX 01] [APEX Style 13] [APEX 03] [APEX 04] [Crescent] [Bilbao].

B.Carbon steel mesh shall be AMICO model number [APEX 01] [APEX 03] [APEX 04] [Crescent] [Bilbao]

C.Brass cladding shall be AMICO model number APEX 03.

D.Copper cladding shall be AMICO model number APEX 03.

2.4MESH PANEL TOLERANCE

  1. Tolerances -0 + 1/16-inch per foot of width (Short Way of Diamond) and ±1/8-inch per foot of length of sheet (Long Way of Diamond).

2.5SUSPENSION SYSTEM

  1. Main beams and cross tees shall be commercial quality hot-dipped galvanized (galvanized steel, aluminum, or stainless steel) as per ASTM A 653.
  2. Exposed surfaces chemically cleansed, capping pre-finished galvanized steel (aluminum or stainless steel) in baked polyester paint.
  3. Attachment Devices: Size for five times design load indicated in ASTM C 635, Table 1, Direct Hung unless otherwise indicated.
  4. Wire for Hangers and Ties: ASTM A641, Class 1 zinc coating, soft temper, pre-stretched, with a yield stress load of at least time three design load, but not less than 12GA (0.1055-inch).
  5. Edge Moldings and Trim: Metal or extruded aluminum of types and profiles indicated for edges, penetrations and, light fixtures.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1PREPARATION

  1. Ceiling panels have both a longitudinal and latitudinal direction. Panels shall be fabricated with the molded openings running the same direction as specified by the architect and reflected on the drawings.
  2. Measure each ceiling area and establish layout of acoustical units to balance border widths at opposite edges of each ceiling.
  3. Provide panel schedule for each area utilizing this system.
  4. Comply with reflected ceiling plans. Coordinate panel layout with mechanical and electrical fixtures.

3.2ERECTION / INSTALLATION

  1. Install suspension system and panels in compliance with ASTM C636, and with local codes having jurisdiction, and in accordance with the manufacturer’s installation instructions.
  2. Suspend main beam from overhead construction with hanger wires spaced 4 feet on center along the length of the main runner. Install hanger wires plumb and straight.
  3. Aluminum infill panels shall be installed with the molded openings having the proper orientation as shown on the drawings.
  4. Do not proceed with installation until all wet work such as concrete, concrete patching, terrazzo, plastering and painting has been completed and thoroughly dried out.
  5. Wall or ceiling moldings to be cut in or otherwise installed?
  6. CLEANING
  1. Replace damaged ceiling panels.
  2. Clean exposed surfaces of ceilings infill panels, including infill frame members.

Comply with manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and touch up of minor finish damage. Remove and or replace materials that cannot be fully cleaned and or repaired to owner’s satisfaction.
