AHOUSE RESOLUTION
TO CONGRATULATE OAKLAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN SPARTANBURG COUNTY ON BEING NAMED A FINALIST IN THE 2010 CAROLINA FIRST PALMETTO’SFINESTAWARD COMPETITION.
Whereas, the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives note with pleasure that for the second consecutive year Oakland Elementary School in Spartanburg County was named a finalist in the 2010 Carolina First Palmetto’sFinest award competition; and
Whereas, sponsored by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and several partner businesses, this prestigious awards program annually honors two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school that maintain innovative, effective educational programs; and
Whereas, looking beyond academics to such things as what students do for their community, judges consider a school’s instructional program, school culture, student achievement, and quality of faculty and staff; and
Whereas, in addition to being named a finalist in the Carolina First Palmetto’sFinest award competition for the past two years, Oakland has received a Palmetto Silver award twice and has been named a Red Carpet school for the past four years and a District Climate award school for five consecutive years; and
Whereas, the House of Representatives is pleased to affirm Oakland Elementary School’s place as an exemplar of all that is good and positive in public education in South Carolina, and the members join Oakland’s many friends in congratulating the school on this, its latest achievement. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:
That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate Oakland Elementary School in Spartanburg County on being named a finalist in the 2010 Carolina First Palmetto’sFinest award competition.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Principal James C. Moore of Oakland Elementary School.
