Family Support Worker

(Families Affected By Imprisonment - Women’s Outreach Team)

Number of Hours:13.5 hours per week

Salary Scale:£21,141 - £29,740 per annum (SCP 23 - 34)

Accountability of post:The post will be line-managed by Circle

Purpose of post:To deliver parenting support to mothers and their families affected by parental involvement in the criminal justice system

Location of post:Circle FABI Team (Hamilton)

This post is a collaboration between Circle and Addictions Support Counselling (ASC), fundedby the Big Lottery Fund, Investing in Communities until 31 May 2019.

MAIN TASKS:

  1. To support mothers in the community as an alternative to custody.
  1. To enable mothers to develop their parenting capacity and relationships with their children.
  1. To work with mothers to promote a safer and healthier lifestyle for the family.
  1. To run individual, family and groupprogrammesdeveloping families abilityto identify strengths in responding to challenging circumstances.
  1. To record, monitor and evaluate all work.
  1. To attend supervision, team meetings and training as appropriate.
  1. To liaise with other agencies and work in partnership with them to meet the needs of fathers, their children and families.
  1. To work within Circle's policies and procedures, most notably in areas of child protection, equal opportunities, anti-discriminatory practice and user participation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential

  1. A professional qualification in social work, social care, education or health

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  1. Experience of working with families in a supportive way
  1. Awareness of issues relating to mothers affected by their involvement in the criminal justice system and the impact on families.
  1. Knowledge of child development, child protection and issues affecting vulnerable children and families
  1. Experience of working in partnership with other agencies
  1. An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities, anti-discriminatory practice and user participation
