Call to Order: 7:14 pm

OFFICER’S REPORTS

Co-Presidents: Jen Younce & Jen Snyder

  • Ratify meeting minutes from November 16, 2011 – MOTION APPROVED
  • Author night was a huge success with over 200 people in attendance. Pizza was sold out two times and lots of books were purchased and sold by the author.
  • It is time to put together job descriptions for each board and committee positions. They need to state how many hours you work on the job and a description of what you do.

VP-Fundraising: Cindy Amurao

  • Spring raffle items have been collected
  • Working on getting teachers to commit their time to the Spring raffle.

VP-Academics: Caroline Credno

  • No new requests
  • There is $3500.00 left for the teachers still to use this year.

Treasurer’s Report: Sandy Bricka

  • Please let Sandy know when you have deposits to be made.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Coupon Books: Jen Younce for Sadia Kullane

  • $1,285.00 was raised for this fundraiser.
  • A total of 138 books were sold.

Cultural Arts: Jen Younce

  • March 13th– Dennis Lee will perform. There will be 3 performances with a 7:00pm family night

Dinner for Dollars: Jen Younce for Jen Snyder

  • Raised $225.00 from Pomodora’s during Skate Night
  • February 7th – Fuddrucker’s Night – Mr. White will perform too.

Family Movie Night – Jen Younce for Mrs. Larson and Mrs. Vickers

  • February 24th will be family movie night
  • PJ party will be the theme and they will serve popcorn and hot chocolate
  • Will also talk about the upcoming Spring raffle.

Girls on the Run: Donna Vanik and Jodi Brendlinger

  • Registration begins February 21st
  • Program begins on March 12th
  • 5 K run is May 20th
  • 2 teams – max of 20 girls per team – teams are either Mon/Wed or Tues/Thurs
  • Looking for parents to step up to run program next year

Grocery Fundraiser: Terri Williams

  • Harris Teeter - $1,613.71
  • Giant - $4,292.53

Landscaping: Terri Williams

  • Cutting back grasses and trimming back and waiting for Spring.

Nominating Committee: Jen Younce

  • Need volunteers to help get people to step up and run committees for next school year.

Scholarship: Jen Younce for Betsy Goodwin

  • Started advertising at Broad Run regarding the scholarship
  • Will accept applications until March 30th.
  • Need volunteers to read essays and review applications.

Skate Night: Jen Younce for Karen Perryman/Heidi Ryan

  • Skate night raised $1,016.00

Volunteers: Kate Barker

  • Field day is going to be April 20th this year. The theme is the Olympics and each teacher will be choosing a country. They would like field day shirts to be made in February, maybe at the Valentine parties. Would like to give the kids the opportunity to wear and use the field day shirts throughout the year. This year field day will be only ½ day with 10 minute stations. No water games this year.

Webmaster: Jen Younce

  • Now has login from the county and will be transitioning the job.

Other Items:

  • Nooks were purchased and the process to get the county to approve the products usage is complete. Mrs. Larson has to now choose the books and load them onto the Nooks. They hope to have everything up and running by the end of January.
  • Joe Corbi- Orders are due 1/20. Delivery will be 2/2 at the school from 4:30-8 pm. This is a new fundraiser we're trying out this year to see how it goes."

NEW BUSINESS:

  • PE Department – Mrs. Clark would like to start an afterschool Volleyball program. This program would be for 4th and 5th grade students and would be for 6 weeks and would meet on Tuesdays after school. Would like to start on February 14th. The PTO would sponsor this program. MOTION APPROVED
  • PE Department – Mrs. Clark will also be starting the morning jog club in the Spring and it will be on Wednesday and Friday mornings from 7:30am-7:45am. The program will begin after spring break. Parent volunteers are needed during this time to help Mrs. Clark too.

Teacher Report: Ms. Birmingham

  • Author visit was very well attended and the students really enjoyed. Feedback from the teachers was very positive.
  • Try to get all Thursday folder papers into the teacher boxes before Thursday.
  • Mrs. Weisman wanted everyone to know that there is a list of times and places for gifted program night information on-line and in the office.

Principal’s Report:Mrs. Walthour

  • Author visit went very well. The 4th and 5th grade students wrote thank you notes to the author as well.
  • Please review the County’s proposed budget on the website. They are considering full day Kindergarten for 12 schools and we are one proposed to have it. This would be a long term commitment so we will have to see what is decided.
  • Science Showcase is next Wednesday night. There should be over 400 experiments on display in the gym and hallways outside the gym. There is an increase in projects from the 2nd grade this year too.
  • Next Wednesday night is also Math Night at the Admin Building.
  • Geography Bee and Spelling Bee each have a champion who will represent Ashburn at the next County level.
  • This summer AES will be undergoing extensive renovations on the ceilings and lighting throughout the entire school. Neither summer programs nor summer school will happen at AES due to the renovations.
