This week in Nursery we have been learning all about `The First Christmas`. We listened carefully to the story and watched a short video clip to help us remember. During busy time the teachers encouraged us to retell the story using our nativity set, masks or themed stickers. They were very impressed with how much we remembered about Mary, Joseph and their special baby.
On Thursday we learnt all about Advent. We have started using our Advent wreath and class calender to count down the days to Jesus birthday.
During get busy time we have enjoyed making lots of christmas crafts such as tree decorations and christmas stockings.Which we have used to decorate our christmas themed home corner.
This week in Reception we have been looking at the time of Advent. The children have looked carefully at the advent wreath, the candles in the wreath and what they represent. Children made their own advent wreaths using playdough, greenery and candles. We thought about how Mary and Joseph felt during the time of Advent and based our writing around this.
We have been very busy practsising for our Christmas nativity. If your child has brought words home, please help them to learn these.
Please remember to record in your child’s reading diary each week if they have read their books at home. If they have not read both, please just write this in, so we can change the appropriate book.
PE – Due to nativity practises over the next few weeks we are having to do our PE lessons outside. We will stay in our uniforms for this as it is too cold outside for our PE kits. I will find out this week if we are doing inside PE lessons after the Christmas Period and let you know whether children will need outdoor PE kits. Children will bring their indoor PE kits home this week.
A few children have still not retunred their permission slip for Farmer Ted’s. Please return these as soon as possible.
This week in Come and See we have been learning all about Advent. We created our own advent wreaths with paint and playdough. We are continuing to use the nativity set in class and our really enjoying look at all the books about the first Christmas that our teachers have added to the reading corner.
Nursery-This week we would like you to write a letter to Father Christmas in your mark making book. Children should work independently to make marks or attempt some early writing (sounding out words phonetically e.gwons would be acceptable for once at this stage). Adults can then annotate as their children tell then what each mark means.
Reception – This week children should practise their words for the Christmas nativity. If your child is not speaking in the nativity they should spend a little time practising the songs.
