Sports and Your Prosthesis

Having an amputation does not mean an end to sports and recreation. Yes, you have a new challenge – but isn’t challenge what sports are all about? With some specially adapted equipment and a little extra help from your prosthetist, you should be able to return to just about any activity you were doing before the ampution. It may take a while longer to become proficient with your new equipment than it did before the amputation. You may also wish to compete against other amputees instead of your previous competitors. But you will find that sports are just as thrilling, perhaps more so than before, and that your new competitors are the cream of the crop! The rewards of sports and recreation will be heightened, not diminished, and the sense of accomplishment will amaze you.
