JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Billing Representative Title of Supervisor: Billing & Collections Mgr.

Department: Financial Services Status: Non-exempt

Uniform: Required to wear appropriate business attire and name badge.

Pay Grade: 14

A.  General Functions

·  Post EOBs, denials, personal payments and adjustments in MDServe and JasRX.

·  Process pending Accounts Receivable accounts.

·  Reconcile all charges, payments, and adjustments to daily close.

·  Mail monthly patient statements and process returned statements.

·  File all claims to primary insurance and follow-up claims to secondary insurance.

·  Refund insurance companies’ and patient overpayments.

·  Submit delineate accounts to collection agency.

·  Process accounts identified as bankruptcy status.

·  Process monthly denials.

·  Establish patient payment plans.

·  Collect and enter new patient demographic, financial and insurance information in MDServe.

·  Process probate/deceased patient accounts.

·  File all workers’ compensation and liability claims.

·  Develop reports for yearly audit.

·  Other duties and projects as assigned.

B.  Education, Training, and Skills

·  Completion of high school plus two years of specialized training or related work experience.

·  Advanced computer and data entry skills.

·  Math acuity.

C.  Experience and Knowledge

·  Experience in posting EOB payments.

·  Should be knowledgeable in medical terminology, CPT and ICD-9 coding.

·  Insurance and prior collection experience preferred but not required.

·  Must have ability to handle confidential information on a need-to-know basis as defined by SCHC.

D.  Initiative and Judgment

·  Requires the ability to work without direct supervision. The work is in a field where only general methods or policies are defined.

·  Initiates and acknowledges the need to develop, revise, update and change all applicable policies and procedures to Billing & Collections Manager.

E.  Working Conditions and Environment

·  Required to communicate verbally with payors, patients, physicians, and SCHC staff.

·  Successful performance of the essential functions of the position requires the following physical abilities:

o  Required to be able to type proficiently, write legibly and to read printed or handwritten materials.

o  Ability to communicate and respond effectively.

o  Occasionally may need to crouch, kneel, stoop or bend.

o  May need to lift or assist with lifting and moving >20 pounds.

o  Requires visual acuity to perform required tasks.
