PROBLEM/SOLUTION APUSH FINAL PROJECT

OPTION 1: GROUP PRESENTATION

1.  In a group of 3 or 4, choose an important problem that America faces today.

2.  Research the causes and the history of the problem/issue (you will need to cite your sources). Analyze the issue, and provide multiple perspectives on the problem and potential solutions.

3.  Develop your own solution to the problem and a clear action plan that includes a step-by-step response to the problem and a discussion of how your fellow students can get involved.

4.  Prepare a presentation/lesson that you will be teaching to the class that includes: A brief History of the problem, multiple perspectives, but mostly focuses on your proposed solution and action plan.

5.  Your presentation must include:

  1. Visual element: a Slide Show presentation, posters, audio (songs or recordings) or a video (*that you have produced – see additional documentary instructions below) or a combination of multiple elements.
  2. Each member of the group must participate in the creation of the project and the presentation.
  3. Presentations should be between 15-20 minutes and well rehearsed (you will lose points if it is less than the time limit & will be cut off at 20 minutes)
  4. You will be evaluated by Mr. Owens and by your peers

6.  You must use a minimum 6 sources in your research & at least 1 of those sources must be non-internet/website sources (books, newspapers, magazines, interviews) and the sources must be listed on an Annotated Bibliography (list of sources with a brief description of each source).

7.  Presentations will take place Monday-Friday during Finals Week in class.

8.  You will have limited class time to work on project and most work will have to be conducted out of class.

OPTION 2: GROUP DOCUMENTARY FILM

Recommended only for those who are experienced in film-making, editing, and have access to the proper equipment. Problem-Solution Documentary:

  1. You in a group of 3 or 4 you will choose a significant controversial issue/problem, facing America today, develop a question (like above), and make a mini-documentary exploring it.
  2. The film must be between 10 and 15 minutes and will be shown to class and there will a Q & A session with the class afterward.
  3. You must turn in an Annotated Bibliography (described above).
  4. The film itself must have each of the following elements:

·  Title

·  History: the Historical background of the problem.

·  Problem: The problem with multiple perspectives on the issue – this would be a good place for interviews.

·  Solution& Action Plan: your proposed solution and action plan for the problem.

·  Credits
