TRANSIT VISA

Who qualifies for this Visa
Transit visas is required from all none visa exempt nationals who are transiting through South Africa to a neighboring country( Botswana, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia and Zimbabwe) or returning from a neighboring country through South Africa. Foreign nationals with long term residence (work permits/permanent residence) in the neighboring countries who transit South Africa to return to their employment or residence are not subject to the transit visa requirement, provided that they are in possession of proof of the status. The countries listed in Visa Exemption List do not need a visa (subject to the conditions indicated) for South Africa. If a country nationality is not listed in the Visa Exemption List, then a visa is required.
PLEASE NOTE THAT YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO EXIT ANY SOUTH AFRICAN AIRPORT WITH A TRANSIT VISA.

Requirements:

1.  Completed Visa application Form (B1-84) in BLACK ink only.

2.  Original passport must be presented, (Passport must be valid for no less than 30 days after the expiry of intended visit to South Africa. The passport must have at least two (2) blank pages (one to endorse/stamp the visa and the other one for entry/exit stamps).

3.  Long term UAE residence visa (issuance date must be 6 months and longer on the time of application)

4.  Copy of the original passport, UAE residence page (validity should not be less than 3 months from the date of application) and South African visa/s (if any) must be submitted.

5.  Two (2) passport size photographs (35x45mm). It must be a clear copy, recent or not older than 6 months. It must be in white background.

6.  Letter from the UAE Company confirming the travel dates, exact purpose of the travel and financial undertaking. The letter must be signed (with the signatory name and designation) and stamped. Also, it must dated/issued on the current month or not more than a month, from the date of application.

The letter must have the company’s full contact details (e.g. physical address and telephone numbers).

v  If the financial undertaking is not indicated in the letters, the applicant must submit his/her own latest three (3) months personal bank statement (stamped by the bank).

7.  Applicants under the sponsorship of a husband/father/mother/wife/employer visa***, the following documents should be submitted:

  • Typed and signed Sponsorship letter (issued by the sponsor***, it must confirm the travel dates, exact purpose of travel, relationship, details of the applicant, and financial undertaking). The financial undertaking from the sponsor is required, only if, the applicant itself could not provide his/her personal bank statement (e.g. minor, unemployed, student, housemaid, etc.). Sponsor’s residential address in the UAE and contacts details must be indicated in the letter.
  • Passport and UAE visa copy of the sponsor
  • If the financial undertaking is not indicated in the letters, the applicant must submit his/her own latest three (3) months personal bank statement (stamped by the bank).

v  For applicants MARRIED to a SOUTH AFRICAN, the following additional documents are required:

  • Copy of Marriage certificate
  • Copy of South African ID or South African passport of the spouse

8.  Copy of the visa/permit of the country of the end destination. Visa for end destination cannot be obtained/applied for in South Africa.

9.  Proof of Air tickets (provisional or confirmed). Proof of Domestic flight/s is also required, if the applicant is travelling from one city to another.

10.  Medical cover (copy of the insurance card is required, along with the insurance policy copy or certification from the service provider, for the “PROOF COVERAGE”. The coverage/geographical scope must state that it covers “WORLDWIDE” or including South Africa).

If a medical insurance could not be provided, a “Travel Insurance” could be submitted instead.

11.  A yellow fever certificate is required “ONLY IF” an applicant is coming from or going through a yellow fever endemic zone. Applicants who are going straight/directly to South Africa from Dubai, and who have not been in a yellow fever zone recently or within a year are “NOT” required to fulfill/submit a yellow fever certificate or any other additional health requirement.
