Spenncon Rail opens a new, highly-automated, environmentally-friendly production plant in Hønefoss, Norway
Courbevoie, France, September 29th, 2017 –Spenncon Rail has completed the construction of a new sleeper plant at Hensmoen in Hønefoss, Norway. Production has started in July 2017.
Following a new long-term contract agreement signed in 2015 with Bane Nor, the Norwegian Railways, Spenncon Rail designed and built a new, state-of-the-art plant for production of sleepers and bearers for ballast track. Equipped with the very latest technology the plant will enable Spenncon Rail to meet both current and future challenges of sleeper construction, while taking into account environmental concerns.
The design of the new 5.000m2 plant incorporatedseveral environmental factors including the use of bio energy,a water recycling system and product design optimization to reduce cement consumption.
The automation of several sections of the production line, a long-line system, brings several benefits: an increase in productivity and efficiency, a higher level of workplace safety, and an increase in production accuracy and repeatability leading to higher overall quality. The production line uses several robots and many operations are fully automated such as sleeper testing, handling and stacking.
The new production plant at Hensmoen in Hønefoss will produce three key product lines: sleepers, bearers and catenary pole foundations (MoFix).
With this new plant, Spenncon Rail'soverall production capacity will increase to 350,000 sleeper units per year, to meet the growing needs of the Norwegian rail market. The increased capacity will also be a great opportunity to develop the productportfolio with new development of concrete elements.
