This intensive 5-days course will provide participants with an introduction to theory and methods in social neuroscience. Invited lecturers will give an overview of the current state of theory and research findings in EEG and fMRI research on social cognition, as well as the essentials of major neuroimaging techniques, especially ERP and fMRI. Aspects of the measurement methods, design requirements, experimental set-up, data processing will be discussed. The course will be in the form of lectures and demonstrations, with ample time for question-answer sessions, and an on-site visit.

Applications are accepted from pre-doc and post-doc students who are seriously considering to begin doing social neuroscientific work, or who have already some experience but want to learn more about it.

The course will be given by the following qualified experts:

- Jason Mitchell (Harvard, U.S.A.),

- Alex Todorov (Princeton, U.S.A.),

- Anja Achtziger (Konstanz, Germany)

- Marcel Brass (Ghent, Belgium),

- Frank Van Overwalle (Brussels, Belgium)

with help of:

- Kris Baetens (Brussels, Belgium)

- Wouter Dehaene (Ghent, Belgium)

- Ruth Seurinck (Ghent, Belgium)

- Laurens Van der Cruyssen (Brussels, Belgium)

The workshop, lunch and 4-nights accommodation are covered for participants belonging to member states of ESCON2 (European Social Cognition Network – Austria – Belgium - Cyprus - Czech Republic – Denmark – Finland – Germany – Ireland – Lithuania – Netherlands – Norway – Poland – Portugal – Sweden – Switzerland - United Kingdom).

Accommodation: Accommodation is covered for 4 nights (21-25 June) in a shared room*** (at 37.50 euro per night per person - including city tax). More nights or other rooms are available at one’s own cost (see table below - per night per person city tax included):

How to get to Ghent

·  From the railway station at the Brussels airport: Take the train to Brussels (North, Central or Midi) – 20 minutes

·  From the railway station in Brussels: Take a train to Ghent (direction Oostende, Knokke or BlankenBerghe)- 30 minutes from Brussels Midi
Do NOT take the regional train that mentions AALST/ALOST because that is a stop train that makes your journey much longer.

When you arrive at the railway station in Ghent

The hotel can be reached from the Gent-Sint-Pieters railway station, by taking a tram at the railway station. The tram stop (in a tunnel) can be reached directly from the train platform by taking the far most exits (when you come from Brussels).

If you are heavily loaded, you can take tram 21 or 22 (in yellow), and take the stop at the "Oude Houtlei" (on your left).

You can also take tram 1 (in red). Exit at tram stop "De Kouter" and continue this street. At the next intersection with the "Volderstraat", turn left, cross the bridge over the water and enter the third street on your right. This is the "Oude Houtlei".

In both cases, proceed and you will find hotel Monasterium PoortAckere at your left.
