Instructional Goals

To be prepared for careers in floral design, students need to attain academic skills and knowledge as well as technical knowledge and skills related to horticultural systems and develop knowledge and skills regarding career opportunities, entry requirements, and industry expectations. To prepare for success, students need opportunities to learn, reinforce, apply and transfer their knowledge and skills and technologies in a variety of settings. This course is designed to develop students' abilities to identify and demonstrate the principles and techniques related to floral design as well as develop an understanding of the management of floral enterprises.

At the end of this course, you will …

-Identify design principles and techniques in floral art and interiorscapes

-Demonstrate floral design principles and techniques

-Develop and formulate ideas from the environment

-Make informed judgments about personal designs and the designs of others

-Demonstrate contemporary designs, business practices, specialty items, and creativity in the floral industry by developing floral design skills

-Know the management factors of floral enterprises

-Learn the employability characteristics of a successful employee

-Develop an improved supervised agriculture experience program as it relates to agriculture, food, and natural resources.

The syllabus is tentative and used as a guideline for the course. The instructor reserves the right to make adjustments to instruction.

Article Summaries: Every week you will be required to turn in a review of an article. Your review must be at least ½ page hand written. You will have time in class to work on the review, but you will need to bring an article with you.

Warm Up: You will have a warm up prompt every day on the board to answer. You will have the first 5-7 minutes of class to get your warm up done.

Classroom Rules:

-Listen to instruction and follow directions

-Utilize class time appropriately

-Produce the best work and complete assignments on time

-Follow all Kingwood High School Rules & Expectations

Grading Categories:

Summative – 60% minimum of 3 assessments per 9 weeks

This category includes items such as major tests, projects, TPSP

Formative – 40% minimum of 6 assignments per 9 weeks

This category includes items such as daily work, participation, and notebooks

School Wide Late Policy:

At Kingwood High School, all students will complete all assignments.

After 48 hours, missing and incomplete assignments will be completed before or after school either with the teacher. Work that is turned in after the 2 days will result in a reduction of 10 points per day that it is late. Students have a maximum of 5 days to turn it late work.
