LOGISTICAL INFORMATION FOR PARTICIPANTS

1. WORKSHOP Venue:

The “Training Workshop for National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) on Designing Socio-Economic Benefits Studies of Meteorological and Hydrological Services and Products in the Caribbean” will be held at the conference room of the City View Hotel, St John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, from 23 to 27 February 2015.

2. Registration of Participants:

Registration of participants will take place at the training workshop venue at 9:00am on the morning of 23 February 2015. Participants are kindly requested to collect their identification badges from the Local Secretariat at the time of registration.

3. Working Language:

The working language of the training workshop will be English.

4. Hotel Information:

Bookings have been made at the City View Hotel (the same venue for the training workshop) for all nominated participants and experts at a preferred rate, breakfast inclusive.
The preferred rate has been set at U.S. $115.00 per night. Important Notice: Lodging costs will be prepaid for USAID-funded participants. Other experts have individual invoices which they will receive prior to the workshop and will be responsible for settling their own hotel bills with the hotel upon departure and will be asked to provide a credit card imprint or 50% cash deposit on arrival. Payment for accommodation can be made by cash or credit card. Please note that USAID-funded participants will still be responsible for all incidental expenditures not covered in the base lodging rate (minibar, etc.).

5. visa and passport Requirements:

All participants who require a valid visa for admission to Antigua and Barbuda and who do not currently have one must contact the workshop organizer, Paola Eisner, as soon as possible at . More information concerning visas applications for Antigua and Barbuda can be located at the following weblink:

For experts requiring an invitation letter for visa purposes, this can be provided, upon request, either by the Local Organizing Committee, or through the World Meteorological Organization.

6. Transportation:

Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services has made arrangements for airport transfers.

7. Currency Exchange, CREDIT CARDS and Rate Information:

The currency used in Antigua and Barbuda is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (E.C).
The current approximate conversion rates with some of the main currencies, as of 3 February 2015 is as follows:

1 U.S. $ – E.C 2.70

It is possible to use U.S. dollars or credit cards on the island. It should be noted that,
as with many countries, exchange rates may vary slightly at stores and hotels. Daily exchange rate information can be obtained from the local banks. Euros are also accepted at some hotels and restaurants, though not as widely accepted as U.S. Dollars.

Major credit cards are accepted everywhere in Antigua and Barbuda. ATMs can be found readily available in St John's City where City View hotel is located, and at the airport. Withdrawal of funds from ATMs is in E.C. Dollars.

8. Climate INFORMATION:

Antigua and Barbuda is known for its 365 sandy beaches. Wonderful sunny weather with temperatures ranging from 23 to 30 Celsius, make Antigua and Barbuda a great vacation destination year round. Make yourself at home in one of ourAntigua vacation hotels. Antigua and Barbuda has relatively cool, dry and sunny weather at this time of the year.

9. Electricity:

The City View Hotel offers electricity in both (~110/120) and 220 voltage. Most appliances from the United States will work well at (~110/120). For electrical appliances from the USA, no adaptor plug should be necessary. However, experts from Europe will need an adapter plug. These can be found for purchase at the airport and local shops. Only dual-voltage appliance from Europe can be used on the island. Please find electrical sockets (outlets) for Antigua and Barbuda below.

The Standard time zone in Antigua and Barbuda is: UTC/GMT -4 hours.
