Welcome to the University of Nottingham library facilities. The following guide provides an overview of the services and facilities available to you during your stay at Nottingham. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact a member of library staff.
1. Library sites
Library facilities are comprised of a number of different libraries located across the various University campuses. Separate guides are available for each individual library. The five main libraries are:
· The Hallward Library, covering the Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences and Law.
· The George Green Library covering Science and Engineering.
· The Greenfield Medical Library covering Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.
· The Djanogly Learning Resource Centre located at the Jubilee campus covering Education and Computing.
· The James Cameron-Gifford Library at the Sutton Bonington campus covering all aspects of Biosciences, including Agriculture and Food Sciences.
There are also separate libraries for Business and Music. In addition there are Nursing libraries at the Derby Royal Infirmary and Mansfield King’s Mill sites, and a library serving the Graduate Entry Medical students at the University of Nottingham at Derby (Derby City General Hospital).
2. Information Services website

The Information Services website provides up to date information about our library facilities, including opening hours, borrowing regulations and contact details.
The site also acts as a gateway to a wide range of electronic resources, including UNLOC and the eLibrary Gateway (see below).
3. UNLOC (University of Nottingham Library Online Catalogue)
UNLOC is our web-based computer system that allows you to search for books, reports and journals that are held across library services. It is also possible to reserve items and make Inter-Library Loan requests for items not held by library services. Please consult the full UNLOC guide (IS2009), for further details. Please be aware that some of our specialist collections and older material are not searchable via UNLOC.
4. eLibrary Gateway
The eLibrary Gateway provides a single access point to a range of electronic resources, including databases, electronic journals, library catalogues and web subject gateways, some of which are subscribed to by Information Services. The eLibrary Gateway is available from the Information Gateway menu at http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/is

5. Newspapers and weeklies
These are provided in libraries, and listed on UNLOC with locations.
6. Theses and dissertations
Theses are listed on UNLOC under author and title. To search these by subject, use the advanced search. Searching all fields, type ‘University of Nottingham Theses’ into the first box. Check the AND option and type subject keywords into the second box.
Some dissertations, written as part of a Master’s or Diploma course, are also added to library stock. Like theses, they are entered under author and title – staff will guide you in tracing them by subject.
7. Service Points
All libraries have Service Points where you can ask for help and advice on any topic. Don’t be reluctant to ask for help – it can save a lot of wasted time and frustration.
Individual subject librarians are responsible for particular subject areas. They and their staff will be able to help you find and search the relevant information resources for your needs. Subject librarians also provide information skills teaching to schools, courses and individuals.
8. Self Issue Machines
Self issue and return machines are available in the following libraries – the George Green Library, the Greenfield Medical Library and the DLRC and Business libraries at the Jubilee Campus. Self issue and return machines are also available in the Short Loan Collection at Hallward Library.
9. Other services
All libraries provide access to self-service photocopying facilities and some to an acetate printing service. Most libraries also offer access to video playback machines.
10. University Bookshop
There are four bookshops around the campuses. The shop in the new Portland building covers new and second-hand books in Arts and Social Sciences, Science and Engineering. Other shops serve the Queen’s Medical Centre, the Sutton Bonington Campus and Jubilee Campus.
