The Crucible Project Options

Choose TWO of the projects listed below totaling 200 points/2 project grades. You will choose one option from section 1 and one option from section 2. The projects are due on NOVEMBER 5, 2013 during YOUR CLASS PERIOD. You will PRESENT on either November 5th or November 6th (order will be determined by random drawing). However, your projects are due on November 5th REGARDLESS of the day you present.

100 POINT OPTIONS—Project Section 1

Option 1- Character Collage and Bio Poem (100 maximum points)

Create a character collage of two opposite characters in The Crucible. Your collage must represent what’s in your characters’ hearts and minds. You can use magazine pictures, drawings and words. You must also include your characters’ motivations. You must create a Bio-Poem using the attached sheet as your guide for each character. Also, include a quote that either your characters said or was said about your characters. Finally, include a “key” that explains why you used particular pictures, words and quotes.

Option 2- Create a Story Board (100 maximum points)

Create a colorful and artistic story board (similar to a graphic novel/comic book) for the events in The Crucible. You must show at least two important scenes from EACH ACT of the play. You must give a caption summarizing acts and use important quotes that help enhance the particular scene you are showing.

Option 3- Create a Sound Track (100 maximum points)

Create a soundtrack for the events in The Crucible. The songs must correspond with at least TWO important scenes from EACH ACT of the play for a total of at least 8 songs. In addition, you must include an explanation for each song that: 1.) THOROUGHLY describes the scene AND 2.) Tells why each song fits that scene using evidence from the play and the song.

100 POINT OPTIONS—Project Section 2

Option 4- Create a Personal Diary or Journal (100 maximum points)

Pick one character from The Crucible that intrigues you. Create a personal diary or journal for that character which depicts the major events happening in the story—both “seen” and “unseen” in the play itself. You are writing as if you are that character, from their viewpoint and perspective (in the first person narrative form). You must create a minimum of six entries (totaling 1 page each – approximately 250 words, double spaced 12 point font) using one of each of the following various modes of writing:

-A narrative entry- detailing a short story of a significant event including setting, characters, time sequence, brief plot, and dialogue

-A persuasive entry- this entry will reflect your character’s wishes for something (an action or person), and how they might write to obtain their wish. For example, Abby might write to John to convince him that she is his one and only true love. What might Rev. Hale or any other number of people write to an authority figure to convince them to stop the trials?

- A reflective entry- describing in detail what a significant event has meant to your character personally, how has it changed him or her personally, what important lesson did he or she learn from it, how will they apply it late in life?

Each entry should be no less than a page (approximately 250 words); short entries will not be given full credit. You must write three entries in the above modes; the other two entries can be any combination of these modes you wish.

* You must design a diary cover. You should put your diary together in a unique, authentic form, including artwork, personal belongings/mementos.

Option 5- “The Crucible” 2013 Script (100 maximum points)

Pick one ACT from “The Crucible” to re-write as a modern day version. The modern version must correspond with the original script in ideas and length. It MUST be typed, 12 pt font, double spaced, and include:

1.)  A Cast of Characters (you may change the names, but not their roles) 2.) Dialogue 3.) Stage directions (with ALL elements indicated in your notes)

Option 6- Create a newsletter (maximum 100 points)

(YOU MAY USE THE PUBLISHER SOFTWARE ON THE COMPUTER)

Create a newsletter using the events and characters in the play for the background. You are going to pretend that the people and the events are real and report this information in your newsletter. You must have:

ü  A title for your newsletter

ü  4 advertisements for people, places and things that could be found during this time period

ü  4 news stories about events that occurred during the play

ü  3 obituaries about characters in the story

ü  2 editorials about the events in Salem (i.e. Are you outraged or in support of the court system?)
