Application to Represent Papua New Guinea at the 7th Youth Forum of theEconomic and Social Council
Background:
The Youth Forum of the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has become an annual platform through which young people contribute to policy discussions at the United Nations by sharing their collective ideas, solutions and innovations. This Youth Forum allows representatives of youth organizations and networks, advocates and others to engage with Member States, and to explore ways of promoting youth engagement.
During the 7th annual Youth Forum of the ECOSOC, taking place at the UN Headquarters in New York from 30 to 31 January 2018, young people will share their perspectives on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. Young Papua New Guineans, between the ages of 16 to 25 years old, who support their communities through development projects and by promoting the Sustainable Development Goals are encouraged to apply. The 7th Annual Youth Forum of ECOSOC is held between the 30 and 31 January 2018at the UN Headquarters in New York, United States. The UN in Papua New Guinea will support the participation of selected youth to the Forum, including airfare, an allowance for accommodation and meals as well as the USA visa application fee. The selected youth is responsible having a valid national passport including the necessary fees if a new one is to be issued.

Eligibility Criteria for the Youth applicant:
- 16-25 years old
- Fluency in English
Experienced in contributing to your community on development projects as well as promoting the principles included in the Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goals 6, 7, 11, 12, 15 and 17 (see below)
Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all (Goal 6);
Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all (Goal 7);
Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable (Goal 11);
Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns (Goal 12);
Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainable manage forests, combat desertification and halt and reverse land degradation and biodiversity loss (Goal 15);
Strengthen the means of implementation and Revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development (Goal 17).
The organizations and networks represented with which the youth is affiliated should:
Adhere to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and should not act in contravention to the principles and values of the Charter of the United Nations
Demonstrate a commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals
Have internal democratic and transparent processes of leadership, decision-making and consultation
Be independent, unaffiliated with any political party
