SENIOR CERTIFICATE SUPPLEMENTARY EXAMINATIONS

1. INTRODUCTION

The Gauteng Department of Education will conduct Supplementary Examinations from 10 February 2006 to 29 March 2006.

2.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

2.1FULL-TIME CANDIDATES

Only candidates who entered for the October/November 2005 Senior Certificate Examination will be admitted to the Supplementary Examination subject to the following provisions:

  1. Candidates who were prevented from writing the October/November 2005 Examinations because of:
  • illness, supported by a valid doctor’s certificate;
  • bereavement, supported by a letter to this effect and a recommendation from the principal;
  • initiation, supported by a letter to this effect and a recommendation from the principal;
  • participation in an inter-provincial or international sporting or cultural event supported by a letter from the sporting or cultural body on an official letterhead and a recommendation from the principal.

NB:Such candidates will have to write ALL the papers in the subject being written, even if they were prevented from writing only one of the papers, e.g. if a candidate was prevented from writing History Paper 2, such a candidate writing the Supplementary Examination must write History Paper 1 and Paper 2.

OR

  1. Candidates who failed the examination and require one subject to obtain a pass. Such candidates may register for a maximum of two subjects that they have failed, on the grade for which they entered the October/November 2005 Examinations.

OR

iii. Candidates who have met the requirements for ordinary conditional exemption, i.e. one requirement short of a Senior Certificate with endorsement. Such candidates will not be allowed to register for more than two subjects and must register on the grade for which they entered in October/November 2005.

OR

  1. Candidates who passed the October/November 2005 Examination with endorsement but who did not satisfy the faculty requirements of a particular university, will be allowed to register for a maximum of two subjects, provided a letter from the faculty supports a candidate's application. The candidate may only write the two subjects on the grade for which he/she entered during the October/November 2005 sitting.

OR

  1. Candidates who passed the October/November 2005 Examination with a Senior Certificate (without endorsement) but are required to improve a symbol for a particular subject to gain admission to a technikon , will be allowed to register for a maximum of two subjects, provided a letter from the technikon supports the candidate's application. The candidate may only write the two subjects on the grade for which he/she entered during the October/November 2005 sitting. Such a candidate will, however, not obtain a matriculation endorsement upon an improvement of a symbol.

In the case where an irregularity is being investigated, provisional entry may be granted to the candidate concerned, pending the outcome of the investigation.

NOTE: A candidate who has registered for a Senior Certificate (without endorsement) and has passed the Senior Certificate, but who has also met the requirement for a conditional exemption, that is one requirement short for a Senior Certificate with endorsement, will not be allowed to sit for the Supplementary Examination in order to obtain a Senior Certificate with endorsement.

2.2PART-TIME CANDIDATES
