RE: / Internship Application Deadlines for the Senior Year Internship
Fall 2012/Spring 2013
The deadlines for submitting applications and the signed ECU Procedures Form to the Office of Clinical Experiences for the Senior Year Experience (Fall 2012/Spring 2012) are:
1st Round Deadline: Monday, April 2, 2012
(Applications submitted after April 2, may not be
processed until the 2nd placement round.)
2nd Round Deadline: Friday, May 11, 2012
(Applications submitted after May 11, may not be
processed until the 2nd placement round.)
3rd Round Deadline: Monday, July 2, 2012
(No applications will be accepted after July 2, 2012)
  • Students must have been admitted into upper division by the deadline in order to be included with a particular round. No exceptions for any reasons. Please attach the paperwork validating admission into upper division found on the next page, #3.
  • It is imperative that the application be completed entirely. Applications not completed entirely, will not be accepted. Students must list 4 counties in the network, and are not to list schools or towns for placement requests.
  • It is imperative that we have ALL the completed applications for the fully admitted candidates submitted together for each placement round. These applications need to be attached to your request sheet with your signature. We are date stamping requests as they come in.
  • Please contact me to set up a meeting time that we can receive the applications from you. I will be happy to come to you to pick them up, if it is prior to the deadline date. If you would like to submit them on the deadline before 4:00, please let me know when you are coming so I can schedule a time to meet with you. Due to issues with receiving information through the inter-office mail, please do not send them to us through the mail. Also, please do not slide them under my door.
  • No applications will be accepted after July 2, 2012 as per the Welcome to Teacher Education Handbook and the vote of the Council for Teacher Education regarding placements and the DPI policy regarding admittance to UD one full semester prior to the student teaching semester.
  • FYI-We will attempt to place in Dare County but have had a difficult time this year placing interns there. Also, unless the student is a Wake County employee, or in one of the virtual programs, do not request Wake County. Wake County hosts over 800 interns per year and it is getting extremely difficult to place interns in Wake County.
PLACEMENT PROCESS
Please use the following procedural guidelines for each placement round.
1.  / *Use the Fall 2012/Spring 2013 Internship Request Form provided to submit each round.*
2.  / Make sure applications are attached to the provided Internship Request Form.
3.  / Attach verification of admittance to upper division by printing the SOATEST Screen from INB OR attach a copy of the Upper Division Form which is stamped “Admitted to UD” with the date. A copy of either the SOATEST or the UD form needs to be attached to each student’s internship application. Do not send any “pending admittance” applications.
4.  / All applications to are due to the Office of Clinical Experiences (OCE), Speight 110 by the deadlines. Be sure all internship applications are properly signed. We will meet with you to accept applications. We will come to you and pick them up or you may submit them to us by bringing them to OCE. Please do not put them in the campus mail or slide them under our door. We need to meet to make sure all documentation is provided so we can begin securing a placement for the students.
5.  / Be sure all internship applications reflect four (4) choices of requested network systems (not individual school names).
6.  / Utilize the 36 network systems (list included on the request form) when requesting placements. Transportation to the assigned network system is the responsibility of the intern, so please discuss this with students! There may be a drive of 60-90 minutes. We attempt to place all interns so they do not have a long drive, but this is not always possible.
7.  / Interns must be assigned to clinical teachers who have completed the required network training. The latest version of the clinical teacher list is attached for your use. We are still waiting on some school districts to send CT updates in, but this list is the most current we have. Do not request the placement of an intern with a clinical teacher that is currently involved in the Spring 2012/Fall 2012 senior year experience cycle without conferring with us first.
8. / Please remember to refer to the Teacher Education Handbook located at http://www.ecu.edu/cs-educ/teached/upload/Revised-2011-Applebook-Cover.pdf
Scroll to the Table of Contents and follow the directions, which are highlighted. The book opens in 2 sections; the book less the appendices, and the appendices may be opened in a set or individually. This Handbook is very useful when answering questions and advising students on the internship process.
****Please give each student a copy of the ECU Dress Code. Adhering to this code is required of any ECU teacher education student in a school.
INTERNSHIP CANCELLATION
Please complete the attached program area cancellation form for any current Sr. I intern that is removed from the internship; this form needs to be submitted to the Office of Clinical Experiences as soon as you are aware of a cancellation. It is critical that you indicate if the intern needs a new Sr. I placement for the following semester. The student cancellation form is attached for any student that withdraws from the internship after the application has been submitted to OCE. Please use these forms for all future internship cancellations. Please notify OCE immediately when you learn that a student wishes to cancel their internship placement, as students often do not.
