Computer Requirements
The firmware download procedure only works on a PC with MS-DOS® or Windows 3.1/95/98®. It cannot be used on a PC with Windows NT/2000®.
Download Procedure
This procedure allows you to download the Agilent 8530A firmware to a PC and copy it to a LIF formatted disk. The 8530A requires firmware to be loaded from a LIF formatted 3.5” HD floppy disk. LIF formatted disks cannot be viewed by Windows Explorer or File Manager. The 8530A can read files (other than firmware) in both LIF and DOS formats.
- Click on the "Agilent 8530A Firmware Revision A.01.66" link below. Depending upon your specific web browser, you may be asked where you want to save the file. Choose a temporary location for the executable file.
- Run the executable file to unzip the 8530A firmware and LIF utility files to the default directory C:\8530A166.
- Format a LIF disk on the 8530A network analyzer. To do this put a 3.5” HD disk in the analyzer’s disk drive, then press: [DISC], SETUP DISC, INITIALIZE LIF DISC, INIT LIF? YES. Remove the disk when initialization is completed.
- Place the formatted LIF disk in the PC 3.5” A: disk drive.
- Launch a DOS window and change directory to the new C:\8530A166 directory created on the PC by the executable file.
- In the DOS window type: LIFCOPY PG_8530A 0:PG_8530A then press ENTER. This places the 8530A operating system on the LIF formatted disk. Wait for the prompt in the DOS window to appear and the disk drive light to go out. Remove the LIF formatted disk from the PC disk drive.
- Label the disk with the product name (8530A) and firmware revision number (A.01.66). If more copies of the firmware will be needed later, retain the files on the hard disk. If you want to save space on your hard disk, you can delete the executable (.exe) file. The remaining files will allow you to make as many firmware copies as needed.
