Welcome to my chemistry class! This class will have many different activities and hands-on projects to help you have fun while learning. I encourage each student to always try to do their best and ask for help anytime. If you ever have any problems, feel free to contact me by email or before or after school.

Classroom Procedures and Expectations

1.  Arrive on time and prepared for class

2.  Complete all work on time and to the best of your ability

3.  Participate and be honest

4.  Be respectful to everyone and everything

5.  Be positive

6.  Follow the Student Code of Conduct at all times

7.  Use technology appropriately when permitted in class

Grading

•  Grades will be weighted as follows:

◦  25% - Daily Work and Homework

◦  20% - Daily Participation

◦  25% - Quizzes and projects

◦  30% - Tests

•  Major grades may be completed within one week for full credit, if missed, during tutoring times

•  10 points per day will be taken off for late assignments

Restroom/Breaks

•  Take care of drinks and bathroom needs during your passing time.

o  Students may not have food or drink in the class room.

o  Students will not be able to leave the class during instruction

There are no breaks during the first and last 10 minutes of class

Absences

All work and objectives will be posted in the designated area of the classroom. Students are responsible for checking with me FIRST for any missed work the day they return to school.

Class Work

•  Do not take out electronics unless directed to do so

•  Come in, sit down quietly and look for instructions on the board

•  Please do not interrupt others while they are talking or working

•  The teachers desk is OFF LIMITS to students

•  If you are working together in a group, you may share and collaborate ideas, but may not copy off of each other or one person, this is cheating

•  If, during the course of taking a quiz or a test, a student appears to be cheating by talking, whispering, passing notes, using electronics etc. I WILL collect the test.

Class Materials

•  Every student is required to bring a 1-subject spiral notebook that we will use. You have until Wednesday August 28 to get a 1 subject notebook.

•  An ipad will be used frequently in this course and will greatly help a student succeed. If a student does not want to purchase one for the year, they may check one out daily from the library

•  Please come prepared for class. If you know you will need a writing utensil, ask BEFORE class starts.

Edmodo

•  I will have an Edmodo page set up for this class; on here you will be able to find notes, handouts, calendar of events, updates from me, etc. Parents will also be able to access this site and keep updated on what is going on in the class. After students are enrolled, you may get a parent access code from me to see what is going on in our class.

•  This is a great tool that I hope will improve everyone’s chances at success in this class. Please take advantage of it

Chemistry lab procedures

Laboratory activities are key to success and understanding in science, and can be a lot of fun! We WILL be using chemicals and equipment that may be harmful if not handled properly. I want every student to participate in labs, but if I feel you pose a risk to yourself or others, I will remove you and contact a parent/guardian. Please behave maturely so everyone may enjoy the lab activities.

All students will be required to turn in lab safety contract signed by a parent or guardian before participating in any lab activities.
