Course Description:

·  Math classes in Salem-Keizer Middle Schools use a research- based math program, Connected Math Project (CMP).

Classroom Expectations:

Critical to the learning process are the following

§  Take personal responsibility for their learning and work efforts.
§  Communicate and work effectively in groups as well as work independently and access resources in addition to the teacher. / §  Arrive each day ready to learn with a 3-ring binder, math book, interactive notebook (INB), paper, pencil, red pen and a highlighter.
§  Behavior Interventions (disrespect, refusal to work/insubordination, disruptive)

Course Grading

·  Leveled proficiency assessments based on the Common Core State Standards will be given throughout each unit to check for understanding. Assessments are graded using a 0.0-4.0 rubric. Proficient at the standard is leveled at 3.0.

·  The academic grade will be weighted according to the following percentages:

o  20% Practice Problems

o  80% Standards Based Assessments

·  Your student will receive two progress reports leading to a cumulative semester grade.

·  Once students have completed all their work and reviewed their previous assessment score, they may retake assessments.


Behavior/Work Habits:

·  Students are assigned a work habits grade which reflects the completion and effort put forth into their daily class work efforts and work completion. Multiple missing/late assignments will result in an N for work habits.

S=Satisfactory
N=Needs Improvement

Tardy/Unprepared

·  Students are expected to come to class on-time and be prepared to learn. Failure to be in their seat when the bell rings will result in a tardy while failure to be prepared for class with necessary resources (3 ring binder, math book, interactive notebook, pencils, red pen, paper, highlighter) will result in an unprepared (A referral will be given on the third unprepared).
