Job Purpose

To support adult students in developing literacy and language skills up to and including Level 2.

Main Responsibilities

1. / To teach ESOL Skills for Life student groups
2. / Produce Schemes of Work and Lesson Plans for ESOL courses on college template
3. / To arrange/schedule and conduct initial interviews with potential students
4. / To administer initial and diagnostic assessments
5. / To use assessment data, student’s own goals, core curriculum standards, learning styles questionnaires to create individual learning plans for each student
6. / To set demanding and achievable targets for, and with, students on a regular basis and to prepare students for national accreditation through accredited ESOL examinations
7. / To complete regular progress reviews with students and record outcomes
8. / To manage and support volunteer tutors
9. / To administer appropriate enrolments and registration procedures.
10. / To provide information on all student related issues (e.g. attendance, withdrawals, transfers/completions) to ensure accurate data is recorded.
11. / To attend team meetings or ensure a full awareness of any issues arising if unable to attend.
12. / To use full range of appropriate resources with students, including ICT.
13. / To be prepared to complete any training required to meet current and future LLUK standards for ESOL Skills for Life lecturers
14. / To work flexibly, undertake training and development and such other tasks as may be required or directed from time to time to meet the needs of the College.
15. / Support and promote the College’s policies, processes and objectives, including safeguarding, equal opportunity, diversity, health and safety and sustainability.
16. / To promote and assist in marketing ESOL Skills for Life courses both on campus and in the community
17. / To participate in the Internal & Standards Verification process to maintain Quality Assurance

Knowledge / ·  Working knowledge of adult ESOL core curricula
·  Knowledge of ESOL qualifications
·  Awareness of barriers to learning experienced by ESOL Skills for Life students
·  Full teaching qualifications or be prepared to work towards appropriate qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed)
·  ESOL L5 subject specialisation
·  GCSE Grade A-C or equivalent in English and Maths / ·  Knowledge of Cambridge and Edexcel procedures for the delivery of ESOL qualifications
·  Knowledge of Edexcel Internal & Standards Verification procedures
Skills/Qualities / ·  Ability to work with a wide range of ability students
·  Ability to work as part of a team and to work on own initiative
·  Timely completion of essential college documentation fully and effectively
·  Patience
·  Sense of Humour / ·  Interviewing skills

Experience / ·  Experience of teaching ESOL Skills for Life students
·  Delivery of ESOL initial /diagnostic assessment

·  Experience of incorporating ILT within the learning process

Special working requirements / ·  May be required to work in outreach venues away from main site or across campuses
·  Prepared to deliver evening classes to adult students
·  Full current driving licence and use of own car
