Disability Education Reference Group
Terms of Reference
Purpose
The Disability Education Reference Group (DERG) is a community consultative forum convened by the Director-General of the Education and Training Directorate. The reference group provides an opportunity for the community to have an important role in formulating advice to the Directorate on the education of students with a disability in ACT public schools.
The Reference Group’s functions are:
· To provide strategic advice to the Director-General of Education and Training Directorate in reference to the education of students with a disability.
· To be a forum for the community to provide information to the Director-General ETD relating to the education of students with a disability.
· To be involved in projects, as required, to support the development and the implementation of the Education and Training Directorate’s Disability Education Strategic Plan.
Membership
· Membership of the Disability Education Reference Group is determined by the Director-General of the Education and Training Directorate. Members are appointed by the Director-General on a biennial basis.
· Members are invited from organisations representing principals, Australian Education Union, parent associations and other government and community organisations involved in the support of people with a disability and their families.
· Membership will be based on the principles of the Directorate requirements, broad disability advocacy group representation and known disability prevalence.
· Members are appointed for a term no longer than two years.
· Applications must be made to the Director-General if a member is seeking a replacement representative.
· Members are requested to send a proxy if they are unable to attend.
Meetings
· The Disability Education Reference Group will meet 4 times per year.
· The Disability Education Reference Group may appoint a working group to address specific issues between sessions and working groups will report to the Disability Education Reference Group.
· The Disability Education Reference Group will report to the
Director-General at end of Semester 1 and 2.
Secretariat
The Education and Training Directorate provides secretariat and advisory assistance to the Group.
