Abstract
The abstract is a brief, comprehensive summary of the paper that allows readers to quickly identify what the main points of the paper consists of and its purpose. It should be between 150-250 words. Any abbreviations or acronyms used within the paper should be defined in this abstract. These should be listed as “Keywords” at the end of the abstract summary, indented by ½ inch. The word “Keywords” should be in italics, followed by a colon. Simply list the keywords that are defined in the above abstract. For example, if I define the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), then I need to list it as a keyword. If no abbreviations need to be defined, then there will be no need for a list of keywords.
Keywords: Department of Transportation
The Title That is Listed on theTitle PageGoes Here
Start your paper with an introduction that begins with a ½ inch indentation. It should be typed in 12-point Times New Roman font. It should not be italicized, bolded, or underlined. The introduction presents the problem that the paper addresses. It also states the purpose of the paper along with the main points that will be discussed.
Level One Heading
A level one heading should be centered, bolded, and uppercase and lower case (title case). Headings add organizational structure to your paper. However, do not use them abundantly to try to fill space and page count to your paper. Too many level headings can also add confusion to a paper if used in excess. For further example of what a properly organized paper should look like, see the APA Sample Paper provided on the Johnson University Florida’s Library Resource page.
Level Two Heading
A level two heading should be flush with the left margin, bolded, and title case. It should not be italicized or have all capital letters. Always make sure to have at least two or more level two headings to provide division and organization in your paper.
Level three heading. A Level three heading should be indented ½ inch from the left. It should be bolded, and lower case, with the exception of the first letter of the first word. It should have a period at the end before starting the text of the paragraph. Text should be followed immediately after.
Conclusion
The conclusion restates the problem that the paper discusses and offers areas for further research that can be done. The word “Conclusions” should be treated like a Level one heading, bolded and centered. The conclusion should also be started on a new page and not be longer than one page.
