ALL STUDENTS IN 6TH, 7th, and 8th GRADE STUDENTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO ATTEND THIS FREE PROGRAM PROVIDED BY A GRANT THROUGH NEIU #19 AND THE U. S. Department of Education’s 21ST Century Community Learning Center Program.

This Department of Education program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children.

The program offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children.

The program runs Monday through Thursday, from the end of the school day until 6 pm.

A snack will be provided.

Transportation is provided.

Program is staffed by certificated teachers employed by the South Scranton Intermediate School and NEIU #19

What do we do?

·  Each day, students have the opportunity to complete homework with the help of certified teachers.

·  Students will need to have a signed passport from their 5 core teachers indicating what homework they have.

·  A snack is provided daily.

·  Clubs provide enrichment activities in all areas of the curriculum AND were chosen and voted on by the students!!!

·  Students can choose to participate in one of the following three ways:

·  Mondays and Wednesdays

·  Tuesdays and Thursdays

·  All four days, Monday through Thursday

·  The fall program is to begin on Monday September 21st, 2015.

Attendance Incentive Program

Each semester, there will be a reward for those students who regularly attend the after school program.

Attendance requirements:

Fall – at least 25 days

Spring – at least 35 days

Students will nominate and vote on the rewards!

** Students who miss more than 10 days can be removed from the program at the discretion of the teachers as only 30 students may participate in the program.

Homework Helpers

Complete your homework with the help of certified teachers!!

Art Attack

Students will have the opportunity to create a mural in Miss Miller’s room as well as decorations to foster school spirit and community connections

The Great Mail Race

An opportunity for students to try and get students in every state to write back to them as they practice writing skills.

The Sports Club

Allows students to explore and play different sports and take part in active experiences that will help us build our social skills and practice teamwork and leadership.

Cake Alchemy

Learn how to create different icing designs for a cake and shape fondant over cupcakes.

Terminators

Students will solve everyday problems by designing and building different robotic contraptions.

Crochet Club

Students will learn to make hats and booties which will then be donated to locate hospitals for newborns.

Minecraft

Students will get to experience the world of minecraft and its connections to math, specifically geometry.
