Superturnstile antennas
Kathrein antennas for digital TV in Brazil
The second most important Brazilian private television broadcaster “Rede Record” has been a loyal customer to the Rosenheim antenna manufacturer Kathrein for over seven years. In the course of digitalisation of TV in Brazil, Rede Record installed so-called superturnstile antennas from Rosenheim in almost all of their larger broadcasting stations, from the very start. In the meantime, you can find the proven Kathrein broadcast antennas in all of Brazil’s most important cities - from Belo Horizonte to Rio de Janeiro.
These antenna are characterised by their broadband attributes, excellent omni-directional diagrams, low standing wave ratio and of course their exceptional quality.
For a total of three times this year, engineers from Rede Record came to Rosenheim for acceptance tests on their newly acquired broadcast antennas. The antenna test superstructures can easily surpass a height of 10 m which is why they must be tested outdoors on the rooftop of KATHREIN Plant II in Rosenheim.
In early March 2011, antennas for the cities of Curitiba, Florianopolis and Limeira were tested here. At this time of the year it is late summer in Brazil, which is why the temperature on the rooftop measuring field in Rosenheim felt bitter cold to the Brazilian guests. In order to warm them up, the distinguished businessman Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Anton Kathrein personally invited Rafael Mafra, Carlos Effting and Fernando Magnabasso as well as Mario Lensing for dinner in the wine-themed restaurant “Historische Weinlände”, where they spent the evening in the warm dining room of the establishment.
In mid-August 2011 and amid soaring temperatures, Rede Record engineer Luis Gustavo Lopes came to presence the acceptance tests for the antennas for the Bauru station. A visit to the “Wendelstein” site at a height of over 1,800 m above sea level with the BR (Bavarian Broadcasting company) was a welcome cool-down.
Tests were now recently done on the antennas for the Rede Record stations Manaus and Cabo Frio. After tests were successfully completed, Brazilian guests Elias Ramos (Rede Record) and Mario Lensing (KATHREIN-Mobilcom Brasil) were able to take a trip to the Bavarian alpine upland while enjoying the wonderfully warm autumn weather.
Kathrein’s broadcast antennas are renowned for their operational reliability under all climatic conditions so that all tests ran smoothly. The clients were very pleased about the excellent test results.
