A SENATE RESOLUTION
TO OFFER CONGRATULATIONS TO THE GOLF WRITERS ASSOCIATION OF AMERICA ON CELEBRATING THE FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF ITS ANNUAL GOLF TOURNAMENT HELD EACH YEAR IN MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA, THE GOLF CAPITAL OF THE WORLD, AT THE FAMED DUNES GOLF AND BEACH CLUB APRIL 46, 2003.
Whereas, six distinguished members of the Golf Writers Association of America first visited Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, in April 1953, at the invitation of the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, George W. “Buster” Bryan, President, and “Squire” Jimmy D’Angelo, PGA professional; and
Whereas, the Golf Writers Association of America has continued to return each year to compete for their annual golf championship always during the week preceding the Masters Golf Tournament; and
Whereas, April 2003 will mark fifty years of visiting Myrtle Beach, the Dunes Club, and other area golf courses; and
Whereas, the Golf Writers Association of America has played an enormous role in the growth of the Myrtle Beach area golf market through the virtues of their creative and informative editorials that have been published over the last fifty years; and
Whereas, the Golf Writers Association of America’s membership roll boasts America’s finest and most famous golf writers, many of whom have participated in the GWAA championship each year at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club; and
Whereas, the Dunes Golf and Beach Club as well as many other area courses have been ranked among America’s best through efforts put forth by writers that have attended the GWAA championship for many years; and
Whereas, the winner of the GWAA championship is presented with the famed Dunes Alligator trophy at the Golf Writers Association of America’s annual spring dinner and awards ceremony which is held on Thursday night during Masters’ week in August, Georgia; and
Whereas, every prominent person in the media and golf world is in attendance at this prestigious event which causes the relationship between the writers and Myrtle Beach to be put on the highest possible platform; and
Whereas, the relationship between Dunes Golf and Beach Club, the Myrtle Beach area golf industry, Myrtle Beach golf holiday, and the Golf Writers Association of America has been a solid bond for over fifty years. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the Senate:
That the members of the Senate offer congratulations to the Golf Writers Association of America on celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of its annual golf tournament held each year in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, the golf capital of the world, at the famed Dunes Golf and Beach Club April 46, 2003, and express their hope that the tournament during the next fifty years will be in Myrtle Beach where the writers will continue renewed friendships each year while enjoying great golf, fun, fellowship, and competition.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Golf Writers Association of America.
