JUNIORS – A CHECKLIST 2017-2018
September/October
- Register for the October 14PSAT/NMSQT in the School Counseling Office. The PSAT is the Preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Only juniors taking the PSAT qualify for the National Merit Scholarship competition. The PSAT is only offered once a year. Registration deadline, October 2 at NASH School Counseling Office. Late registration deadline October 6.
- Take the Saturday, October 14, PSAT/NMSQT at NASH.
- Plan to attend North Pittsburgh College Fair on October9from 6pm -8pm at LaRoche College.
- College Information Night & Financial Aid at NASH on October 10– 6pm – 8pm
December
- Register for the February 10ACT – Register online at
January/February
- Research post-secondary institutions through Family Connection.
- Develop your list of possible colleges, and add colleges to your “Colleges I’m Thinking About” list on Family Connection.
- Talk to your School Counselor.
- Study! Grades count! Your cumulative QPA at the end of 11th grade will be used for most college applications.
- Take the February 10ACT test, if registered.
- Register for the April 14 ACT.
- Register for AP (Advanced Placement) Exams.
March/April
- Register for the May 5 SAT Reasoning Test.
- Register for the June 2 SAT Reasoning Test.
- Take the March 10 SAT Reasoning Test, if registered.
- Plan your senior year course selection.
- Take the April 14 ACT, if registered.
- Check if your colleges require SAT Subject Tests.
April/May
- Register for the June 9 ACT.
- Plan your summer college visits.
- Check admission requirements against your own course selections.
- Take the May 5 SAT Reasoning Test or SAT Subject Tests, if registered.
- Take the AP Exams – May
June/July/August
- Take the June 2 SAT Reasoning Test or SAT Subject Tests,if registered.
- Take the June 9 ACT, if registered.
- Begin applying to colleges as applications become available.
- Schedule appointments for college interviews.
- Visit colleges during summer vacation.
- Continue to explore your Family Connection account, taking interest inventories and career surveys.
- Continue to add colleges to your “Colleges I’m Thinking About” list on Family Connection.
- Fill out a Counselor Letter of Recommendation Form if necessary.
