SOLICITORS

Despite the fact that Crownridge is posted with "No soliciting"

signs, solicitors will canvass the neighborhood several times each year. The majority of the streets in Crownridge are public streets. If the solicitors obey the law, they are within their right to solicit. They must carry a city-issued permit (or copy thereof) with them at all times and cannot solicit you at your home if a “no solicitation” sign is posted on your property.

Often the solicitors will be energetic, sometimes pushy, usually are 17 to 28 years old, commonly will state they are raising money for a school project, and usually are selling magazines. In the past, some solicitors have used scams such as the following: They state they live in our neighborhood. When asked, they will name a street, which may or may not be in our neighborhood. They may even name their parents, when requested. To our knowledge, every time a homeowner has asked the solicitor for this information, the family name they have given did NOT live in Crownridge. Furthermore, in the past some of these solicitors have been witnessed looking into open garages and into back yards. A couple of solicitors have stated emphatically that "So and So gave me permission..." to solicit. Again, this has NEVER been true.

If now or in the future a solicitor calls on you, our advice is the

following: look at them carefully gathering a description of them in

your mind (gender, clothes, ethnicity, identifying marks/clues) and

notice which direction they are headed when they leave your property. Then call the police (207-7273) immediately. Ask for a police officer to

check out the individual. In the past, as well as today, we have had

to take these actions. Most of the time the police have responded quickly, spoken to the solicitor, and when appropriate have escorted them out of our

neighborhood.

Please be proactive. Call the police 207-SAPD or 207-7273.
