The National Collections Centre can be found by exiting the A470 at the A468 Caerphilly/A4054 Treforest Trading Estate junction. Turn left down the hill. At the next roundabout take the 3rd exit onto Heol Crochendy. The College buildings are on both sides of the road. At the next small roundabout go straight ahead, the Showcase cinema will be on the right and Macro on the left. The entrance into our car park is the 2nd turning on the left immediately after the small red brick offices comprising Charnwood Court and directly opposite the Peacocks Warehouse. Veolia is the unit directly north of us.

The nearest rail station is Treforest Estate which is 10 minutes’ walk away.

This hands-on workshop provides an opportunity for practitioners and others to work through the principles and practicalities of dealing with archaeological archives and material find assemblages and become familiar with the new National Standard and Guidance for Collecting and Depositing Archaeological Archives in Wales (2017)[1]

Knowledge of this Guidance and adherence to its standards is essential to anyone working in Wales and compiling archaeological archives, on both a commercial and non-commercial basis.

A combination of discussion and practical session on the consideration, management and processing of archaeological archives from project conception to deposition with reference to the recently launched Standard and Guidance (2017).

A practical session discussing processes of lithic manufacture and placement within a broad chronological framework. The session will aim to provide attendees with the skills to identify and produce basic records of lithic finds. Attendees are welcome to bring along any lithic collections they may have on the day.
