Dear Quilters,
As I am writing this I am waiting for my son and granddaughter, Meghan, to pick me up for a trip to IKEA. I have finally gotten around to turning my 12 x 15 laundry room into a sewing room! I am going to purchase two shelving units and a rolling cabinet. I see it all in my mind – I just hope it works out the way I imagined.
I will be able to get my sewing machine out of the dining room and ironing board out of the kitchen. I am hoping to be able to unload at least one closet—(is that a dream or a possibility?).
The room has been emptied and I am overwhelmed with all of the items I found: An almost finished quilt (Don’t you love that?); six sets of fabric carefully placed with patterns, and four projects to finish! I hope to do one before Christmas! I also found a hook-onto-the-desk lamp; I am going to use it now!
The day after our shopping trip my son came back and put together two shelves, a cabinet and a table! When I returned from work I was astonished at the transformation of the space! It looks like a sewing room. I have been putting fabric on the shelves and filling the drawers! More projects!! I found four more in the guest room closet! Plus a lot more fabric (I seem to be drawn to red!) A couple of more days off should finish up the organization and then I can begin to sew without spreading out into the dining room and kitchen! Oh NO!!! NOW NO EXCUSES – I will have to cook more….hmm a TV might fit on the wall above my sewing table—but that will a project for another day!
Hope you all are getting organized or are already – Let’s finish some of those projects!
Let me know how you are doing!

Carol’s Corner
Hi Y’all!
I’ve always enjoyed the articles that show up in quilt magazines - “Create Your Perfect Sewing Space”. They make it sound so easy and the photos make me drool with envy. But let’s get real – how many of us actually have the ideal sewing area?
You know I have a sewing room literally stacked to the ceiling, but it’s all mine (and the gremlins!). I can play to my heart’s content, then close the door on the mess. WORKS FOR ME!
I’ve talked to so many people over the years and very few have ideal setups but somehow they make it work. Dining tables are very popular as are desks. The downside is you can’t always leave your machine up. TV TRAYS ANYONE?
A clever setup is to take over the guest room closet. Install a counter, put up a few shelves, maybe some peg board, instant sewing area and you can close the doors. Some of you share office space with your husbands. Some husbands even quilt! They have their own machines, their own stuff and very much their own space. YOU GO GUYS!
I know a gal who lives on a sailboat in the summer and an RV in the winter. I’ve talked to long haul truckers who have sewing areas in their cabs. HAVE MACHINE WILL TRAVEL!

ENGLISH PAPER PIECING
Thurs: Sept 19 10:00-1:00
Or Thurs: Dec 12 10:00-1:00
Fee: $20 1 Session
English Paper Piecing—quilting technique using paper templates as fabric stabilizers ensuring accuracy when sewing complex angles together such as the hexagon shapes in a Grandmother’s Flower Garden Quilt.
Many already know about stitching together hexagons by hand. However, I am surprised at the “conventional” way of doing it—so I’ve adapted it to work best for me –no tracing patterns, no pins (i.e. the laziest way possible). My way means no stitching through paper which makes removing & reusing easier.
