Recreation and Community Services

1) FIVE OUTCOMES IN UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Outcome 1: Recreation graduates should know the importance of psychological, social, spiritual, and physiological benefits of leisure, recreation, play, hospitality and community services.

Outcome 2: Recreation graduates should demonstrate significant knowledge of innovative and creative program planning, leadership, program implementation and evaluation addressing the needs of participants and community

Outcome 3: Recreation graduates should be able to clearly articulate (speak and write), ethical, philosophical, historical, current best practices and administrative foundations of our profession.

Outcome 4: Recreation graduates should be able to conduct research in our profession, analyze data and draw conclusions based on evidence and provide accurate referencing for all sources.

Outcome 5: Recreation graduates will be able to treat all people with dignity and respect while promoting and encouraging individuals, communities and organizations to achieve the highest quality of life.

2) METHODS FOR ASSESSING OUTCOMES

Outcome 1 Indicators: Grades in Rec 1000, 3000, and 3999

Portfolio of major papers from Rec 3000 and at least one paper student’s concentration area in Recreation

Student self-assessments administered in the form of survey rubrics at the start and end of selected sections of Rec 1000, and 3800.

Outcome 2 Indicators: Grades in Rec 2200, 3300, 3010, 4602 and 4603

Outcome 3 Indicators: Portfolio papers from Rec 3000, 3700, 4300, 4000

University Writing Skills Test

Student self-assessment administered in the form of survey rubrics (including oral component) at the start and end of selected sections of Rec 4100, 4910/4911

Outcome 4 Indicators: Grade in Rec 3700

Rec 3700 paper in portfolio

Outcome 5 Indicators:

Written Instructor Observation of student leadership and program implementation s abilities in Rec 2200, 3300, 4602, 4603

3) ENTRY-LEVEL COURSE WHERE FIRST ASSESSMENT OF THE SLOs WILL TAKE PLACE.

Rec 1000: Introduction to Leisure, Hospitality and Recreation
