Week ofAugust 16 - 20

Theme:
“All About Me”
Please remember to bring your poster and be ready to share! We will learn all about what makes each one of us special and unique.

Language Arts:
We will begin our Fundations instruction this week. Fundations is a systematic, sequential, multi-sensory method of teaching reading and writing skills to students. Students will meet Echo the Owl and Baby Echo, our very important assistants. We learn what it takes to make them fly!

Letter of the Week
We will be meeting Mr. Mm, Munching Mouth! Every Friday the children are invited to bring one item that begins with the sound of the Letter of the Week. They need to have 3 clues ready to share about the item to see if classmates can guess what it is. The item must be small enough to fit in the backpack.
Please Send In:
During the course of this year I will be sending home little paper books that we read in class and are rich in sight words. These books are very helpful and important to reread so your child can build their sight-word vocabulary. Each year we make special boxes to keep our books in. Please send in a covered shoe box (top and bottom covered separately). We will decorate the boxes in a center and then send home for your child to use. Please send these in by Friday, Aug. 20. /

Great News!!!
Leo the Leopard will be making his weekend visits this weekend! We will go alphabetically to decide who takes Leo home. He is bringing his Journal so that you can write about his weekend with your child. Leo, his journal, and his clothes all come hime in a handy pet carrier that your child can easily carry on the bus if needed. Leo can go anywhere with you for the weekend (he’s even been to the Bahamas and skiing on Colorado!). Please include pictures if possible.

HELP!
As we opened up our Play Dough for centers this year we discovered that it was hardened and moldy. If you can donate some to our class we would greatly appreciate it. It is so good for strengthening little hands and making letters and numbers (not to mention all the other fun and creative stuff you can make!)

MY BIG DISCOVERY:
Recently I went to Lakeshore Learning to purchase some sand and sand toys for our new sand table. (Thanks to the generosity of a parent’s gift of gift cards!) While searching online on their website I discovered that I can make a “wish list” that anyone can access to purchase donations for our class. These are not items that we “must” have, but it would be nice and useful to have them. If you would ever like to make a donation or gift, go to and click on “Find a Wish List”. Enter my name – Ida Lowrie, and Marietta, Ga.
