Matters Arising:

  1. Committee Christmas Function: Tuesday 6th December. Catering has been ordered and organised. Responses to Marjorie by 15th November. Deb encouraged members to attend.
  2. 2017 Calendar: Annette brought one in for the office but Deb has already started one and agreed that we would continue with this one and put the new one up at OLOL.
  3. Power Points: Reiterated that all Power Points for December and January need to be into the office by November 25th.
  4. Christmas Masses: As reported at last meeting. As Paki Paki had Midnight Mass on 24th there would be no service there on 25th. All confirmed.

General Business:

Quiz Evening: Friday 11th November at St Peter Chanel 7pm. Fr Manoj updated the Liturgy Committee on progress for this. Adult section has eight teams entered but at the moment there are none in the Youth section. It was felt that this may be due to timing and exams. If none are received by the cut-off date Fr Manoj advised he would cancel that section and just have the one. Quiz evening winners will be announced after the End of Year of Mercy Mass.

End of Year of Mercy Mass: Sunday 20th November. 9.30am St Mary’s School followed by a morning tea. Games and sporting equipment will be supplied by the school. Quiz evening winners will be announced after this mass.

This will be the only mass of the day. Saturday Vigil 19th November, 5.30pm at SPC.If wet signs will be put out diverting people to SPC and Sacred Heart for 10.00a.m. services.

Vestments: Fr Nathaniel raised the matter of the Priests vestments for OLOL and SH as some of the current ones are worn out and badly in need of replacement. He and Fr Manoj have been researching replacement costs in India and the Philippines.

MOVED Kathy, seconded Julie that the Liturgy Committee refers this matter to the Finance Committee.

Carried.

Morning Prayer: Bev raised the question of the booklets being used at Morning Prayer. Current ones are quite expensive and only for this year and she feels that there must be a better option. Deb to liaise with Bev and they will bring options back to the February meeting.

OLOL Bereavement Group: Process around funerals and what happens when the Priest is contacted by a bereaved family were discussed. Deb explained her role. It was felt that the bereavement group could provide the follow-up after the funeral. A similar team is needed at SH. Deb to meet with OLOL team in 2017.

Reconciliation:Fr Vince advised that First Reconciliation was on 4 December and this and session details had been published in the Newsletter. Reconciliation will be at OLOL on 21st December at 7p.m.

Anointing Mass:Fr Vince reported that these would be at SPC at 1.30p.m. on 10th November and at OLOL on 29th November at 2p.m.

Change to Mass Times:It was reported that OLOL were unhappy at the lack of consultation over the change of Mass timeespecially as they are the most affected by the proposed changes.Bishop Charles had made the decision to change the Mass times but Fr Vince advised that any decisions on the time frame of implementing this was left to the local congregations. Any change would commence on 1 January and we would probably trial it for two years and then do a review. New year – new start. Details will be publicised in the newsletter from the middle of November and also added to the website. Noted that changes always bring some negative feedback when first implemented but people usually adjust quickly and that these changes are due to reduced staffing and hence unavoidable. The sign at OLOL will need changing and this will be organised.

All Souls:Because of the low numbers attending these Julie suggested that it might be better to have one mass in future and rotate venues. This will be considered and reviewed for 2017. Deb thanked everyone involved in the organisation of this and All Saints this year and the Priests for all their work especially for the cemetery services.

Ministers of Communion OLOL:Susan queried the process for recruiting more Ministers of Communion as OLOL is very low on these at the present time and people are doing it every two to three weeks. Currently use six every week and the issue of number of stations was raised. Felt that this could be reduced. It was suggested that a list of possible suitable candidates could be given to the Priest and they would approach them. Could also be mentioned by the Priest at Sunday’s mass. It was pointed out that for some people this may be a cultural issue. Moira will give a list to Fr Vince.

Musicians Roster:

This is also reducing and we need to recruit more people to this ministry. It was suggested that maybe some of the groups such as the Filipino Choir or other ethnic groups within the Parish could sing at all churches on occasion and this might help the situation. Fr Nathaniel suggested that as a last resort if there were no musicians available rather than have no music MP3 downloads and CDs could be used.

Health & Safety Issue at Christmas Masses:A reminder was given that there were to be no chairs placed in aisles and that everyone had to ensure that this didn’t happen. It had been a problem at times in the past.

Blessing of the Advent Wreath: Deb to contact Duke Street re study materials and to check and see which community is due to volunteer the Christmas Wreath this year.

St John Leavers Mass:Annette commented on how lovely today’s Leavers Mass had been and thanked everyone concerned. It was a wonderful occasion.

Amalgamation: On behalf of the clergyFr Vince thanked the Liturgy Committee for all their hard work and assistance since the amalgamation.

Jill and Fr Manoj left the meeting at 6.15p.m.

Fr Manoj Farewell: Fr Vince confirmed this will be 15th January at SPC and will include a morning tea/lunch after the service. He will liaise with the Indian community on this.

Meeting closed with a prayer at 6.25pm by Fr Nathaniel.

Next meeting:2nd February 2017 at 5.30pm.

Prayer – everyone (Liturgy prayer). Marjorie has extra copies in the office.
