The 2013-2014 cheerleading squad members will be posted on the balcony doors and on the OC Cheer web sit (www.occheer.org)

the morning of May 17th.

OCHS Cheerleading’s primary focus is promoting school spirit first and foremost. If your daughter’s primary reason for trying out for OCHS cheerleading is strictly the competitive aspect we would like to suggest you look at a competitive cheerleading program at a private gym where that is solely their emphasis.

TEAM SELECTION:

All cheerleaders must attend each clinic date. It is mandatory in order to make one of the OCHS cheerleading squads unless previous arrangements have been made with the coaches.

Positions on the roster are not guaranteed based on the previous year’s squad. There are many facets to an athlete making either of the squads. Some facets are weighted with more importance than others, but the final decision is based on who works best for the squad. Attitude is very important; especially a positive one. We need cheerleaders to have a positive attitude about their teammates, practice, community service and the coaching staff. Other important attributes that will be evaluated are as follows:

ê  Tumbling Skills

ê  Stunting Skills

ê  Jumps

ê  Position – Back Spot, Main Base, Secondary Base, Flyer

ê  Motions/Technique

ê  Dance Technique - approx. 45 second dance learned at the clinic

ê  Communication Skills – Voice, Facial, Expression, Confidence

ê  Prior year athletic and academic commitment

Oak Creek High School Cheerleading is composed of 2 squads:

We would like to make you aware of the serious time commitment involved in cheerleading should your daughter be selected for one of the cheer squads. Please keep in mind practices will begin in the summer and will continue through mid-March.

ê  PHYSICALS:

o  Physicals are needed every other year. Once the squad is chosen, we will find out from the OCHS office which girls need physicals. Anyone needing a physical will receive a green physical card to be filled out by their doctor and turned into the OCHS office prior to the first practice. If you have any questions about the physicals, they can be directed to the Athletic Secretary, Connie Jerominski, at 768-6210.

The Athletic Code is to be handed in to the coaches who will, in turn, turn them in for the entire squad to the OCHS office.
