Meeting Minutes

January 19, 2012

The January 19, 2012 meeting of the Kern County General Collaborative was called to order at approximately 8:30 AM at the Kern county Superintendent of Schools Office, 1300 17th Street, Bakersfield, CA in room 1A.

I.  Welcome

Tom Corson called the meeting to order welcoming those in attendance. It was noted that Kern Cares Committee Member Brian Mendiburu was in attendance.

II.  CX3 Program: Communities of Excellence in Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity Prevention - Patrick Grijalva, Nutrition Project Coordinator, Kern County Public Health Services Department and Avtar Nijjer-Sidhu, Ph.D., R.D., Senior Health Educator, Environmental Health Services

Patrick Grijalva and Avtar Nijjer-Sidhu provided a power point presentation on the purpose and goals of the CX3 Project. The project collects data that conveys neighborhood conditions to improve food availability to low-income populations. III.  Pedestrian/Bike Safety: Safe Routes to School Grants – Zac Griffin, Bike Bakersfield and Salvador Gomez, Kern County Roads Department

Zac Griffin discussed the mission of Bike Bakersfield and along with Salvador Gomez, provided a power point presentation overview of the “Safe Routes to Schools.” The presentation showed the transformation of neighborhoods to make bike routes to schools more accessible and safe and discussed the partnership between Bike Bakersfield and the Roads Department.
