United Way State Associations/Coast2Coast Procedures

United Way State Associations

  • Sign and return the Coast2Coast/United Way State Association Marketing Agreement(scan to pdf and email) at United Way of North Carolina
  • Once signed by Coast2Coast (C2C), the agreement will be returned to the State Association
  • Upon receiving the executed agreement, you will be ready to present the C2C discount card opportunity to your statewide United Way network
  • Local United Ways (LUW) that would like to participate in the C2C discount card program should sign and return the customized State Assoc. UW/C2C MOU to the authorized person in your organization for your files.
  • Upon receipt of the signed MOU, the State Assoc. should reply with a confirmation email that provides verification that the MOU has been executed and provide the following web address . This is a private password protected site that contains various informational pieces for the Coast2Coast program. Once at the website, the user name is Coast2Coast and the password is C2Ccard2012 (both are case sensitive)
  • Each State Association can simply direct their local United Way to this website or place the materials on their own website or just email the information to each UW once the MOU has been signed. But, if you elect to create your own site we ask, especially at present, that you keep this information password protected.
  • The link should not be shared with anyone that has not signed a United Way/C2C agreement.
  • The webpage will provide an opportunity to look at how each marketing/promotion piece will look. The samples utilize the United Way of North Carolina logo.
  • To order C2C items, click this link This is a private link for United Ways and should not be shared! You will need a localized United Way logo for your community, your UWW organization number and your signed MOU to place an order.
  • All C2C materials will be customized for each United Way including a localized UW logo and group number (the group number will be the local United Way Organization Number). The generic United Way logo cannot be used.
  • Remind LUW that a sample letter to discontinue the relationship with a current card provider, if needed, should be sent to end confusion within the LUW community. (The C2C card is much more robust than other discount cards. The additional benefits to those without insurance should be one of the key marketing advantages of the C2C card. To avoid confusion to the community, we recommend that the United Way prepare materials to announce the use of the C2C card.)
  • To be totally transparent in protecting the United Way brand for all and abiding by the Cause-Related Marketing section of 2012 UWW Licensing Agreement (Section 13c), each local United Way should be very specific as to how the donation from C2C will be utilized within their community. This is extremely important since the donation is not

meant to “pad” United Way budgets but is meant to help shore up specific areas in support of each local community’s impact agenda. The community should accept and embrace the donation back to the community with each use of the card. We want to make sure the donation to the LUW and the State Association is transparent and defendable to the community at large. The integrity of the United Way and C2C rests with how the card and the donation are promoted and utilized by each LUW.

  • In areas/counties without a local United Way presence, the LUW that holds the largest number of zip codes within that area will have first priority as to whether they will assume responsibility for marketing and distributing the C2C cards in that area. The LUW accepting responsibility in these areas, must sign a MOU for that county at the same time they sign their Local United Way MOU. In cases where there are an equal number of zip codes or when the LUW with the largest number of zip codes decides not to accept responsibility for the area; other adjacent United Ways will be given the opportunity.
  • This language “(PlaceYour Local United Way Name Here)encourages you to consider your needs when selecting products or prescription programs and does not make specific product recommendations for individuals” should be used on all press releases and when talking about the C2C card in the community.
