Monday 20th November 2017
Dear Parents / Carers,
Welcome to BLOCK TWO.This topic will be over a BLOCK of 10 weeks which will finish on Friday 10th February. The brilliant topic we will be learning about for this block is entitled ‘Bounce’. Throw it, catch it, roll it or bounce it? Can you catch a bouncy ball? Could you bounce like a kangaroo or hop like a rabbit? What is the best bouncy material in the world? Can you make everlasting bubbles that will never pop? Let’s find out!
In English, we will be learning towriteabout Peter Rabbit and his gang of animal friends. We will be learning about parts of language – nouns, adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Can we create a new ball game and write the instructions down for other pupils in the school to play? Let’s learn about kangaroos and write fact files on these weird and wonderful creatures. We will be exploring poetry through imagining we can leap on the moon or if we were a very bouncy ball in the playground.
Our class book will be Beatrix Potter’s Peter Rabbit and Other Tales. This is a wonderful series of children’s books and has been more recently made into an animated series. This is one aspect of your child’s reading they can share with several generations of family members!
Home Learning:All children (Y1 and Y2) have been given their grids today and the expectation for this block is that every child will complete the maths, key words and spelling activity for that week. These short tasks will be repeated a minimum of 4 times across the week and the boxes ticked accordingly. These will be collected with the Reading Logs on a Monday and Maths for Y2 will be going out and returned on a Friday each week. Maths for Y1 will need to be completed (please see the grid for details) and handed in on Mondays.
For TOPIC HOME LEARNING, please select two of the options from the bottom of the grid to be completed by the end of the block.
Reading: All pupils have taken home a NEW reading log today. All children need to read with an adult at home and an adult needs to sign each box. These need to be in school every day. Every Monday, a member of staff will collect the logs and check these have been kept up to date. If your child completes a Reading Magpie task (these can be found on the back of the reading logs) please sign the relevant square to say it has been completed and date it.
PE will be on a Monday and Thursday in Darwin class
Monday and Thursday in Nightingale class
The Monday session will be Martial Arts for both classes in the afternoon with Instructor Nick from Tiger Martial Arts. Please ensure your child has a PE kit with them every dayas there may be occasions when the Friday session might change.
Spelling lists will be sent on a Friday and tested the following Friday.
If you have any questions, please come and ask. Many thanks for your continued support.
Many thanks
