CLPA BOARD MEETING NOTES-August 8, 2011

Location:Town Hall, 9:00 a.m.

Attendees:Dennis Thornton, Carl Bruggink, Joe Mass, Dick Thurow, Kris Doan.

Guests Jan Thornton, Dennis Nodolf.

1.Dennis called the meeting to order at 9:00 a.m.

2Carl moved to accept the minutes of the July 11 meeting, Dick second, motion carried.

3.Treasurer’s report was questioned regarding a bill missing for printing costs. The golf outing was a success. More prints of Dan Bleck's painting are available from Dennis Thornton. Dick moved to approve the Treasurer’s report, Joe second, motion carried.

4.The Town wants to pave the area down to the town dock on Round Lake. Fire trucks fill up at this location. Kery Kafka of the Shoreline Committee would like the Town to consider putting in a Rain Garden in front of the paved area. This garden would collect the run-off from the road rather than having run-off go directly into the lake. A plan is to be developed by the Town with CLPA input regarding the paving/garden project. Joe moved to recommend the town proceed with the plan, Dick second, motion carried.

5.The Shawano County Conservation Committee will visit on August 9, 2011. Plans include Dennis, Dick, and Kris meeting the committee members at the Gibson Island parking lot around 9 a.m. Dick will take them on a tour of the island. Kris will give committee members packets with the Gibson Island CD and volunteer plan for removing invasives on the island. Around 10 a.m., the group will proceed to the boat landing where Jon Motquin, County AIS Coordinator, will give a short presentation on the AIS in the Cloverleaf Lakes. The group will board two pontoon boats and go to Dennis Thornton's home to see the restored shoreline as well as the restoration projects of Thornton's two neighbors. After that, the group will have a picnic at the new shelter.

6.The Golf Outing was a success thanks to Jim Aumann and his son, who organized a great raffle and many prizes. We had fewer golfers this year but still made more money than last year. Stan Kleiss won the $500 cash prize. Costs and income from the outing can be found on the Treasurer's report.

7.Dennis announced changes in the composition of several CLPA committees. Russ Kafka no longer will head the AIS committee. Dennis T. will offer the chair to Dennis Krubsack who will get back to us. The Marketing and Education Committee has asked Molly Joosten and Kris Doan to join it as Ed Stuebe is resigning.

8.Fran submitted a DNR grant for invasives due August 1. The amount requested is $190,000 over a five year period, through 2016. If we receive the grant, 75% will be paid by the DNR and most of the rest will be paid by the Town of Belle Plaine. Funds are used for the lakes AIS treatment, surveys, fees, mapping, consultants, boat monitors, administrative costs, and launch fees. The recent survey alone cost $2,300.

9.Complaints were received about dogs on Sandy Beach. Dogs are not allowed and must always be on a leash. Refer neighbors to call Dennis Hoffman if complaints continue.

The person who operates the dog rescue boat would be willing to patrol the lakes for us for a fee. He spoke with Carl.

Carl suggested that we consider a walking trail around the lake if a grant is available to reimburse costs.

There is some discussion of the Town paving the new boat trailer parking lot on Hwy. Y.

Complaints have been heard about boats speeding on Round Lake which is a 'no wake' lake. Remind folks of the rules and if they continue, it is recommended you call the Sheriff with concerns. Getting boat numbers is a good idea.

10.The next board meeting will be held September 12, 2011. Dick moved to adjourn the meeting, Joe second, motion carried.
