A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
RECOGNIZING AND COMMENDING THE IRMO FIRE DISTRICT FOR ITS MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS AND OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE PUBLIC.
Whereas, since its beginning in 1963, the Irmo Fire District has been committed to community service; and
Whereas, it is the first and only fire district in South Carolina to incorporate thermal imaging technology into its fire suppression arsenal; and
Whereas, over fifty percent of the Irmo department’s personnel are certified emergency medical technicians who are trained to provide first-responder medical care; and
Whereas, the department is automatic-external-defibrillator-equipped for the rapid treatment of cardiac arrest victims; and
Whereas, the department has incorporated a ninety-five-foot aerial platform ladder into its fire suppression inventory and provides fire protection, EMS first-responder, and fire education to a population of over 45,000 residents; and
Whereas, for every six firefighters, the district has one nationally certified fire instructor; and
Whereas, the district has on staff a paid fire marshal for code enforcement and a full-time training officer to ensure quality fireground operations; and
Whereas, the department acquired and renovated the first fire safety house in the State for use within the Irmo Fire District public education program; and
Whereas, the department was chosen to be a designated drop-off site for the Aluminum Cans for Burned Children’s Program and was also presented with “The Watch Dog of the Taxpayers Award” by the State Treasurer; and
Whereas, the district is providing fire education to seven elementary schools with over 5,000 children and also continues to utilize volunteer firefighters in an urban area to save tax dollars: and
Whereas, the Irmo Fire District clearly is a South Carolina leader in the areas of fire safety and prevention; the district’s work is outstanding in every way; and we are genuinely pleased to have this opportunity to accord special recognition to such an excellent and dedicated organization. Now, therefore,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:
That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognizes and commends the Irmo Fire District for its many accomplishments and superb service to the public.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Irmo Fire District.
