Reports to: Head Librarian

I. POSITION SUMMARY: Provides access to library information resources and provides service to the IVCC community.

II. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Performs circulation activities including registering borrowers, charging materials to user records, receiving returned materials, renewing materials, and circulating reserve items. Exercises discretion and security measures with sensitive library user information.
  2. Responds to directional questions about the facilities, policies and procedures of Jacobs Library. Responds to basic reference questions. Refers patrons to appropriate resources or librarians when requests are beyond scope of expertise or the college collection. Responds to basic computer related questions within scope and context of library needs. Creates tutorials on basic library processes.
  3. Maintains piece-level record keeping system for library collections via shared automation system. Performs basic copy cataloging. Maintains records in serials module of a universal database and in local records. Prepares various types of new materials for circulation. Notifies patrons of new materials.
  4. Maintains catalog records for electronic resources. Provides support for electronic resource maintenance.
  5. Checks statewide holdings and deletes materials from local, shared and universal catalog systems. Adheres to last copy guidelines. Discards and disposes of withdrawn materials. Removes old serials.
  6. Repairs library items.
  7. Prepares materials for special collections. Handles changes to materials moving between collections. Collects, organizes, and manages bindery items.
  8. Performs catalog record cleanup.
  9. Assists in pre-selection and de-selection of library materials.
  10. Places and tracks orders for new library materials. Checks local and consortial holdings.
  11. Receives and processes new materials. Receives and tracks standing orders and subscription materials. Identifies items for special cataloging.
  12. Processes invoices, statements, packing slips, status reports, and renewal requests. Obtains estimates for standing and firm orders.
  13. Receives items in Colleague. Runs queries for status of purchase order balances.

N.  Creates and maintains procedures for position responsibilities.

III. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Supervises student employee tasks as needed.
  2. Maintains order of shelves and files.
  3. Monitors library to help ensure the safety and security of patrons and materials.
  4. Participates in library promotional and outreach activities. Displays new and featured library materials. Assists with management of social media.
  5. Assists with maintenance of departmental technologies.
  6. Supplies information for reports as requested.
  7. Assists with inventory and other special projects.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

IV. QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

·  Bachelor degree

·  Experience working in a library setting or similar environment

·  Demonstrated proficiency using a variety of online information products and application software including Microsoft Office

·  Organizational skills with ability to maintain accurate, detailed records

·  Customer service skills

·  Experience with financial recordkeeping

·  Demonstrated commitment to continuing education

·  Ability to lift up to 30 pounds in order to handle boxes of books and heavy carts

Preferred:

·  Library Technical Assistant certificate or Associate degree, or coursework in library science

·  Coursework in standard software applications

·  Coursework in cataloging

·  Experience with cataloging in a library automation system

·  Experience serving students and faculty in an academic library setting

·  Ability to multi-task and work in a team setting
