Parent Community Liaison Meeting
Minutes for Thursday – September 7, 2017
On Thursday September 7, 2017 at 9:00am the Wayne County Title I Coordinator, Mr. Tony Conn, initiated the county parent community liaison workshop at the Wayne County Board of Education large conference room. Mr. Conn had all parent community liaisons (PCL)to sign in and confirm their email information to ensure it was correct. All Parent Liaisons were introduced along with Wayne County Federal Programs Director Sherri Brewer and Federal Programs Secretary Jodi Sager.
The meeting started with a presentation from Wayne County Board of Education Title I Coordinator Mr. Tony Conn. Mr. Conn presented pertinent information for basic roles and responsibilities of the parent community liaison team. The Parent Community Liaison (PCL) Team discussed conducting a book swap or exchange with all elementary and middle schools. Mr. Conndiscussed the upcoming expectations and job requirements for the 2017-18 school year. Mr. Conn showed a class PowerPoint presentation with all guidelines and expectations of the parent community liaisons. Mr. Conn. Discussed the importance of student attendance and importance of preparing students to become “Career and College Ready”. Mr. Conn Explained the importance of the parent community liaison school confidentiality with all situations. Mr. Conn and Mrs. Brewer discussed the three strategic county goals with the parent community liaison dealing with student engagement, PLC’s professional learning communities and rigorous leadership skills, and relevant student data and assessment focusing on the topic subjects of Math and English, so they would understand what our focuses would be for the 2017-18 school year.
Mr. Conn discussed with all parent community liaisons the importance of documentation of all parent meetings. We discussed as a group how to provide documentation for all meetings within the parent community liaison notebook.
Mr. Jason Cox – PK Coordinator for Wayne County Schools presented to the PCL’s on the topic of Read Aloud Events at the school. Mrs. Terri Lynn Queen – Attendance Director presented to the PCL’s on the topic of the importance of attendance and the correct procedures and processes for excused and unexcused absences.
Mr. Conn and all parent community liaisons concluded the meeting and Mr. Conn reminded the PCL’s to please return their tentative yearly schedule, PCL Survey, and their “expectation form” with the principal’s and their signature for the next meeting in October.
