Greater Latrobe Wildcat Junior High Track

Junior High Track is a competitive team sport open to all 7th and 8th grade students. Any one may participate; no experience is needed. Athletes will be expected to be at all practices and give 100%. If you are going to miss a practice, notify the coach. Because of our large numbers, only a portion of the team will go to away meets. This “Travel Team” will be determined by the coaches lookingat work ethic, time trials, and previous meet times. All team members will participate in home meets unless otherwise limited by the PIAA official.

You need to have a good pair of supportive running shoes; not basketball shoes or cross trainers. Good does not mean expensive, they should not be more than a few months old. Spikes are not necessary. If you wish to purchase spikes, we have the 3/16” spikes that go in; do not use the big ones they include. Spikes are used for meets and running segments of practice. Throwers do not need spikes.

Be prepared for the weather. You should always have a water bottle, sweats, hat and light jacket with you at every practice. Most practices will be outdoors, we do run in rain and snow. A small duffle or draw string bag, (put name on everything), is very practical. Spandex, compression shorts or tights are permitted under clothing, black is preferred because of relay team rules if worn during a meet. Muscles need to be kept warm.

SCHOLASTIC ELIGILILITY:

Any student failing two (2) or more major subjects will be denied the privilege of participation. The administration reserves the right to restrict any student from attending anextracurricular activity based on negative behavior during the school year.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE: Students must be present in school the day the athletic event is conducted.

PRE-SEASON WORKOUTS ARE OPTIONAL. FIRST OFFICIAL PRACTICE MARCH 12th.

TRANSPORTATION: ALL RIDES MUST BE PROMPT

MEETS-Transportation to and from away events will be provided by the Greater Latrobe School District. Students must travel with the team on the bus.
