A.R.E. (the Association for Retail Environments) Backgrounder

Founded in 1956 in Hollywood, Fla., A.R.E. (the Association for Retail Environments) is a nonprofit trade association with the mission to advance the retail environments industry and to help member companies become successful through education, insights, marketing and events. A.R.E. is the title sponsor of GlobalShop, the annual industry trade show.

Member Profile

A.R.E. has approximately 750 member companies from around the globe that offer a full range of products and services for retail environments. These include retail design firms as well as suppliers of store fixtures, lighting, flooring, visual merchandising products, materials, equipment and services.

A.R.E. Awards Programs

A.R.E. Design Awards—The industry’s largest and most prestigious retail store design awards program. In addition to awards for every major retail type, awards are presented for Visual Presentation of the Year, Sustainable Project of the Year, Fixture of the Year, Individual Element Awards, and the highly coveted Store of the Year.

The Merriman Above and Beyond Award—Retailers and designers nominate an A.R.E. member for going beyond the call of duty.
