“The Monongah Heroine”~A 30-minute Documentary Film that originally aired on WVPBS, December 6, 2007. The film aired again on WVPBS, December 10, 2008 and on Public Access in North Central West Virginia (Channels 18 & 19) every day at 6:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. during the month of December 2008 and again in December 2009.   • The Associated Press did a news story on the Monongah Mine disaster of 1907, featuring my film. This AP story received International coverage in newspapers and news outlets all over the world. The film continues to receive International Coverage 2008-2009 and 2009-2010.
  • The Monongah Heroine was the featured film at West Virginia University on December 1, 2009 for the annual “WVU Miner’s Day Celebration.”
  • The Monongah Heroine has won several awards, including the Broadcast Education Association (BEA) Festival of Media Arts Award for best documentary, two MarCom Awards, two Ava Awards, a Telly award and two Silver Communicator Awards for documentary filmmaking.
  • The film was featured at the WV Women’s Day at the Legislature, 2008, in which I was also the keynote speaker.
  • The film was featured at the Dominion Transmission Gas Company Diversity Council Meeting, 2008, in which I was also the keynote speaker.
  • The film was featured at Fairmont State University through their Lifelong Learner’s program, 2008. I was also the keynote speaker.
  • The film was featured in a festival in downtown Fairmont called “The Feast of the Seven Fishes” in which I was the featured speaker at opening ceremonies on Saturday, December 8, 2007.

  • Researcher for an Emmy-nominated PBS documentary “The Mosque in Morgantown,” which aired to a national audience on June 15, 2009. Through unfolding scenes and intimate interviews, “The Mosque in Morgantown,” frames this local conflict as a means to explore the larger dilemmas facing American Islam. It tells a storyof competing paths to social change, American identity and the nature of religion itself. This is one of 20 “crossroads” films funded by PBS after September 11, 2001.
  • September 2011- “The Mosque in Morgantown” was available for viewing on Comcast/Xfinity during the month of September.
  • Researched names and records at courthouses, city and county clerks’ offices, and magistrates’ offices throughout North Central West Virginia.

  • Under my direction, Joe Manchin was elected to WV Secretary of State with 90% of the votes, November 2000.
  • Managed and organized Joe Manchin Campaign for Secretary of State.This included, but was not limited to supervising, organizing & scheduling volunteers at campaign headquarters in all 55 counties.
  • Established and maintained contacts (database) with statewide media including television, radio, newspapers, and magazines.

  • Spring 2009-Spring 2013-Advisor and producer for OSTN partnership. A 24-hour global student-run Internet news service. More than a dozen WVU students had their stories featured on the Web in 2008. Students also get paid $200 per story.
  • Spring 2009-Present-J-School Advisor for MSN Partnership. Liaison between MSN and students for recruitment, scheduling and contract development. Students have the opportunity to work all technical aspects (cameras, directing, audio) at all home WVU games and sporting events through this partnership.
  • Supervised and produced video shot by two WVU students who filmed across WV for Michael Moore’s 2008 film “Slacker Uprising.” Video Credits were given to the two students Carrie Jones and Matt Franzblau.
  • Began a relationship with MSNBC during the Virginia Tech Massacre (April 2007) that resulted in WVU News students being featured on MSNBC as part of a new program
  • “MSNBC on Campus.” Fall 2007-three WVU News Students were selected to go “LIVE” on MSNBC with their 2-4 minute news stories.
  • Under my direction, supervised team of West Virginia University Broadcast Journalism students to cover the Virginia Tech shooting, April 2007. Worked closely with student team on all aspects of news reporting and live shots.
  • During Virginia Tech tragedy, set up daily media opportunities of WVU student team with the following West Virginia and national media outlets: Charleston Gazette, West Virginia Metro News (Statewide Radio), WAJR-Radio, Dominion Post, Times West Virginian, West Virginia Associated Press, West Virginia Media Holdings, WDTV-TV, WBOY-TV, WOWK-TV, WVU News, MSNBC, and FOX News.
