WORLD SERIES TROPHY TO VISIT MALDEN

Treasurer Cahill, Senator Tisei, and Representative Fallon announce visit to Malden

State Treasurer Timothy P. Cahill, Senator Richard R. Tiseiand Representative Christopher G. Fallontoday announced that theWorld Series Trophy Tour will make a stop in Maldenon Wednesday, March 9th, giving Red Sox fans in Malden a chance to see the 2004 championship trophywon by the Red Sox.

The35-pound, 24-inch tall sterling silver trophy will visit as many of the Commonwealth's 351 cities and towns as possible during the next few months thanks to the Massachusetts State Lottery, which has entered into a sponsorship agreement with the Boston Red Sox to be the presenting sponsor of the World Series Trophy Tour.

“Much like it was for the Red Sox, 2004 was a championship year for the Massachusetts Lottery,” said Treasurer Cahill, who also serves as Lottery Chairman. “This sponsorship is a not only great opportunity to showcase a world championship trophy, but also to highlight the Lottery’s record-high sales in 2004 which returned more than $700 million in local aid to cities and towns.”

Since winning their first World Championship since 1918, the Red Sox have already traveled to 10 states and to the Dominican Republic with the trophy. It has made multiple stops in all six New England States, as well as stops in California, Florida, Georgia and New York.

“Baseball fans in New England have long-awaited a World Series Championship win by the Red Sox,” said Senator McGee. “I thank Treasurer Cahill and the Lottery for working with us to bring the Trophy tour to these communities, giving residents ofNahant an opportunity to share 86 years in the making.”

Sunday’s visit to NahantTown Hall will be held from 4 p.m.-5 p.m., whichwill be free and open to the public. The trophy will make a second local public appearance on Tuesday, February 22 at Lynn City Hall.
