INDOOR COURT BOOKING at
Indoor courts can now be booked online. The website booking system has been extended with added lines for both the indoor courts and the clay courts (see below). It is anticipated that this will encourage more intensive use of the third indoor court (court A) which is available to club members at times when the County has use of indoor courts B & C. The following changes have been made affecting all court bookings, indoor and outdoor:it is not now possible to cancel a booking at less than 24 hours notice and the advance booking limit has been reduced to 20 days. MACIT specific issues are discussed on the next page.
New Clay Courts
The opportunity has been taken to convert the tarmac courts 14 15 down beyond the indoor courts into synthetic clay courts as shown in the action picture below. A heavy duty carpet has been laid over the tarmac and overlaid with deep red sand. The result is a surface on which balls are slowed and lifted as they bounce. This change, supported by the LTA, should help members, especially aspiring juniors, to improve their technique on slow courts. Members are encouraged to try out the new surface (complete with new netting round the courts). Court access is with a standard court key. Please remember to sweep the lines after play. Pay & Play is now available on the top acrylic courts.
New Bar Development
As you know the club now has planning permission, contractors for the project are being sought and the work is due to begin in March 2013. And above all the LTA has already confirmed that a 100K interest free loan is being made available to match the 100K already beingcommitted by the club.
Members have also contributed nearly 10K by signing up to the various fund raising schemes outlined in the Chairman’s letter. However, more funding is required, so if you have not already supported this scheme, do try and do so now!
Both the £250 loyalty card and the £250 membership card provide a refund of all your capital after 10 yearsplus a substantial discount nowon either your subscription or bar sales. So for those who get involved it really is a win win situation and a far better way for the club to raise funds rather than paying bank interest on a loan.
In addition the application for the 50K grant is being resubmitted in September to Sport England, along with letters of support from MHDC and Governing Bodies, but the more signatures we have the better. Do look for the sign up sheet in the club house now and add your signature.
Amazingly there are still members who seem unaware of what is planned for the clubhouse and how they can help so do please talk to each other and help to get the message across!

Coming Events
Please look at the events schedule above and make some diary entries. Last year the mixed doubles event was well supported and good fun even though it had to be played indoorsdue to pouring rain. There may still be time to enter for Sunday 16 September. Ian Powell is arranging the autumn golf day at Puckrup Hall near Tewkesbury on Friday 21 September. Please ring him for more details. A horse race event was organised successfully last year and another is planned for the clubhouse on Saturday 17 November. The New Year Dinner in February is a highlight of the social programme and the tennis and bowls quiz in March forms the reciprocal event to an enjoyable summer evening on the bowling green.
MACIT Issues
Malvern and County Indoor Tennis is part of the Manor Park Trust but is run independently of the tennis section. Tennis members are automatically members of MACIT but it is possible to be a MACIT member only. The subscription is £40 for the membership year starting October 1st. All indoor court use is subject to court fees which in winter are £8 per court per session off-peak and £16 per court per session at peak time. Members must book sessions before play which can be done at an online terminal on the central table or on the internet at home. Members have to pay for full sessions with no half or part sessions bookable or payable. Do not try to evade these rules. MACIT needs fees income to cover its costs including loan repayment.
Junior News
ManorPark’s 14 year old Ellie Fleming won the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Road to WimbledonCounty finals held at ManorPark. In April and May tennis clubs in the two counties run events for both boys and girls and then each club winner and runnerqualify for the county finals.Ellie then won through to the National Finals this year held at the Bank of England Sports Ground. She narrowly failed to win through in her initial box league but reached the semi final of the Consolation Event and had a great time. ManorPark Tennis Club Finals Day Report
When finals day came rain was pouring down, so play started indoors. Even when the rain eased off mid-morning the courts were still soaking wet so most events were played indoors.
The Ladies Singles was won by last year’s runner up 18 year old Pippa Lewis who defeated 14 year old Ellie Fleming. This was a very good final with both girls playing to a high standard and Pippa managing to win some key points to take the match 7-5 7-5. In the Men’s Singles final Mike Marks defeated Paul Burgess in a very close match, just coming out on top 4-6 6-3 and then 10/8 in a match tie break. Mike teamed up with club coach Chris Skinner to take on Paul Burgess and Rory Guilding in the Men’s Doubles. The first set was extremely tight but Mike and Chris managed to secure it 7-6 in a tie break. They then played with increased confidence and went on to take the 2nd set 6-2. In the Ladies Doubles Jenny Poole and Nicky Perrins retained their title in a closely contested three setter against Ali Tuck and Ali Kirkwood 7-5 3-6 10/7. In the Family Doubles Nicky and Pete Clarke defeated Xac and Tobie Timmermans 6-4 6-3. Nicky then teamed up with Chris Skinner in the Mixed Doubles and in a very entertaining match they beat Paul Burgess and Ellie Fleming 7-6 6-3 In the Men’s over 60 Doubles Peter Sturrock and James Noon retained their trophy defeating Tom Hurley and Nick Hall 6-7 6-3 6-4.
Both the Men’s and Ladies Singles Plate Finals matches were closely contested games with Paula Daniel defeating Tracey Morgan and Simon Kilminster defeating Pete Clarke, both in 3rd set match tie breaks. The Ladies Doubles Plate saw Linda Horniblow and Vicki Hartwright retain their title and Pippa Lewis playing with her father Steve won the Mixed Doubles Plate.
The junior event saw some good play in all age groups. In the mini tennis round robin events the 9U girls winner was Stephanie Combe, the 9U boy’s winner was Reece Taylor Lock and the 10U boy’s winner was Chad Warren. Nicky Clarke and Ellie Fleming battled it out for the 15U title with Nicky managing to retain her title. Paddy Hyde had a successful day winning the 13U Boys Singles and along with Harry Chadwick the 13U Boys Doubles. He also teamed up with Simon Wikeley to finish runner up in the 15U Boys Doubles. This was an exciting final with the winners, Tobie Timmermans and Adam Stanton winning in a 3rd set match tie break. Tobie also took the 15UBoys Singles title and the 17U Mixed Doubles title. His partner in the mixed was 11 year old Georgina Cupper and they defeated brother and sister Simon and Ellen Wikeley in a 3rd set match tie break. Georgina also won the 12U girls title. The boy’s 12U winner was Jamie Hiley.
