Building Effective Communities of Practice- Pupils with English as an Additional Language
Spring Network Group Meetings 2017
The main aim ofthe network groups is to support teachers and schools in providing effective support for pupils with English as an additional languageand to share ideas and expertise from the perspective of mainstream staff.There will be six repeat meetings following the half term period in the Spring Term.
Who should attend?
Staff who:
Hold responsibility for overseeing the needs of EAL pupils within their school, e.g. EAL co-ordinators
Hold responsibility for the deployment of teaching assistants who support EAL pupils in mainstream classrooms
Wish to further develop their knowledge and skills in relation to supporting EAL pupils in their classroom.
All sessions will be free and all meetings will be tri-part meetingscommencing at 10.00 a.m. and finishing at 1.00 p.m.
10.00-11.00Primary Phase (primary colleagues only)
11.00-12.00 Cross Phase (primary and secondary colleagues)
12.00-1.00Secondary Phase (secondary colleagues only)
The cross phase part of each meeting this term will cover an update on developments in the field, frequently asked questions and a discussion about future themes for meetings. In the phase specific meetings, a new EAL assessment framework to support monitoring and the setting of targets will be discussed.
