Introduction:
I. Growing up we all had a movie that made an impact on our lives. For me that movie was Free Willy.
A. The story of a troubled boy who turns his life around when he befriends a whale made my heart soar.
B. The bond they shared was so magical and the whale was so cute that I wanted one of my own.
II. Free Willy created the groundwork for my love of whales and made me a more passionate person.
III. This item was given to me by my sister, who knows me better than most, so she knew I would love it.
IV. This notebook reveals one of my obsessions, one of my ambitions, and one of my passions.
Now let’s swim into my love for whales.
Body:
I. Most of the people who know me are aware of my love for the ever-glamorous whale.
A. I’ve been obsessed with whales since a summer trip I took to Rhode Island to visit my cousins.
1. One of my cousins had a sweet t-shirt that said “Shamu, the Splashmaster,” which sparked many a joke about whales.
2. After that, items with whales on them began sprouting up all over the place, so my collection of whales was able to grow.
B. I don’t just like whales, I also happen to bring them up into conversation quite a bit.
1. The first day of Leadership Orientation when we broke up into small groups, I just started talking about whales, which made everyone in my group think I was crazy.
2. I gave my graduation speech on whales, and succeeded in calling everyone in my graduating class a whale without offending them.
3. When I had to give a toast at my sister’s wedding recently, her husband said the only stipulation was that I was not allowed to mention whales, not even once, which I found to be rather difficult.
What else does this notebook reveal about me? Let’s splash into my love for writing and what that love means for my future career plans.
II. This notebook represents my love for writing and anything else English related.
A. All my life I have excelled in English class, which spawned my love for writing.
1. My love for writing developed the first time I wrote a creative story in elementary school, and I have been writing ever since.
2. I have numerous notebooks at home and at school that I use to write stories and poems. In fact, this notebook has the beginning of a story on the first page.
3. I love writing so much that I was the only student in my English classes not to complain about an essay assignment, and I always turned them in early.
B. My love for writing has led me to pursue a career as an English teacher.
Although the cover of this notebook seems to only reveal my love for whales, it also manages to show one of my passions. Let’s float into my academic ambitions.
II. The “A+” sticker on the front cover reveals my drive in my academic life.
A. Throughout school I have always strived for the highest grades possible.
1. I can even pinpoint the exact moment that I decided to be the best student I
could be.
2. I was in the first grade and tired of everyone thinking that Katie McGriff was so perfect because she made straight “A’s”, so I decide if she could do it so could I.
3. Ever since then I have proven myself as a strong student.

I. Now you can understand what is important to me and what makes up my personality.
II. Just like the boy in Free Willy learned what is important to him, I hope I have been able to enlighten you about who I am and what is important to me.
