RE: / Update on Northern Lights Regional Health Centre heliport

Dear Parents,

Iwanted to reach out and provide you with some information on an Alberta Health Services (AHS)project I amexcited about. AHS is building a new heliport at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre.

The new heliport will provide better and more efficient emergency care for residents. To build the heliport, AHS requires the use of a temporary safe work zone near the Health Centre and not far from the Dr. Clark & Father Turcotte School.

AHS recognizes the proposed safe work zone is near your children’s school, and possibly in your neighbourhood, but we wanted to let you know we are taking the following steps to ensure the site is safe and as esthetically pleasing as possible:

  • Fencing – The safe work zone will be surrounded by a tall locked fence that will always be locked when not in use.
  • Decorative hoarding – AHS will install hoarding around the fencing surrounding the site.
  • Student safety education – AHS will collaborate with nearby schools to discuss with students the importance of site safety at construction sites and the dangers of playing around construction materials.
  • AHS Protective Services patrol -The laydown site will be patrolled regularly by the AHS Protective Services team.
  • Security camera – A security camera is installed near the safe work zone and will monitor the site 24 hours a day.
  • Construction activities will abide by all air emission and noise regulations of the regional municipality.

Parents and all Wood Buffalo residents are invited to attend an open house to learn more about the heliport, how it will improve patient care and what we will be doing to keep the work space as safe as possible.

AHS staff and other stakeholders will be on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback.

Two session times are being offered.
